About The Position

The Cast Technician at Carrell Clinic is responsible for providing skilled assistance in the application, adjustment, and removal of orthopedic casts, splints, and braces as directed by orthopedic physicians. This individual ensures the safe and proper immobilization of injuries or post-surgical sites, provides patient education regarding device care, and supports efficient clinic operations. The Cast Technician plays a key role in delivering high-quality patient care within a professional orthopedic practice.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience in an orthopedic or related clinical setting preferred.
  • Knowledge of musculoskeletal anatomy, fracture management, and orthopedic immobilization techniques.
  • Strong communication, patient education, and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in written and verbal English, with excellent spelling and grammar skills.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced clinical environment with ability to adapt to change.
  • Proficiency in using computers and electronic medical records systems.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Manual dexterity to apply and remove casts and braces safely.
  • Ability to lift and move up to 25 pounds.
  • Must have adequate vision, hearing, and communication skills to perform job duties safely and effectively.

Nice To Haves

  • Certification as an Orthopedic Technologist (OTC) or Cast Technician preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Apply, adjust, and remove all types of orthopedic casts, splints, and braces in accordance with physician instructions and established protocols.
  • Educate patients and caregivers on proper cast care, hygiene, and signs of potential complications.
  • Assist physicians with wound care, suture removal, post-operative dressing changes, and other procedures as needed.
  • Prepare and maintain casting materials, tools, and equipment to ensure readiness and cleanliness.
  • Document all procedures, materials used, and patient instructions accurately in the electronic medical record (EMR).
  • Maintain compliance with HIPAA, infection control and safety standards.
  • Assist with fitting and dispensing durable medical equipment (DME) and orthopedic supports.
  • Support clinical staff with other patient care duties as needed.
  • Participate in ongoing training and continuing education related to orthopedic procedures, casting techniques, and patient safety.
  • Displays a positive appearance, including appropriate dress as defined in employee handbook and wears visible badge at all times.
  • Is responsible for ensuring that all patient, facility, and employee information is not compromised.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by physicians or management.
