About The Position

Directly supervises the case managers. Responsible for the day-to-day operations of the case management department of the facility, as well as maintaining a case load in compliance with American Correctional Association (ACA) standards, Management & Training Corporation (MTC) and Mississippi Department of Corrections (MDOC) directives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in counseling, human services and two (2) years related experience including a minimum of one (1) year supervisory experience required.
  • Directly related experience may be considered in lieu of formal education requirements if approved by management.
  • Valid driver’s license in the state of Mississippi with an acceptable driving record required, unless waived by management.
  • Must successfully complete annual in-service training requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise the programmatic functions of the case management staff.
  • Provide assistance to the job development staff in preparing the inmate for release.
  • Conduct staff development training for the case managers.  Also, participate in the program planning process for the inmate.
  • Maintain communications with all other departments and participate on the program team.
  • Provide direct aid to the inmates with personal needs or problems, i.e., sickness, injury, family problems.
  • Review detailed background files and conduct personal interviews and recommend a program for each assigned inmate.
  • Provide continuous educational, vocational, personal and social adjustment counseling on an individual and group basis. Recommend necessary program modifications throughout each inmate’s assigned stay.
  • Utilize new concepts and approaches; recommend and conduct training sessions and conferences to develop greater proficiency among staff in the areas of guidance and social adjustment.
  • Recommend medical and psychiatric evaluation for emotional or psychological problems.  Evaluate results and take remedial action as warranted.
  • Provide staff with the necessary community resources registry that will help in transition of the inmate.
  • Promote the development of positive social skills through modeling appropriate behaviors and intervening when inappropriate behaviors are observed.
  • Maintain accountability of inmates and property; adhere to safety practices.
