About The Position

Directly supervises the case managers. Responsible for the day-to-day operations of the case management department of the facility, as well as maintaining a case load in compliance with American Correctional Association (ACA) standards, Management & Training Corporation (MTC) and Mississippi Department of Corrections (MDOC) directives.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in counseling, human services and two (2) years related experience including a minimum of one (1) year supervisory experience required.
Directly related experience may be considered in lieu of formal education requirements if approved by management.
Valid driver’s license in the state of Mississippi with an acceptable driving record required, unless waived by management.
Must successfully complete annual in-service training requirements.

Responsibilities

Supervise the programmatic functions of the case management staff.
Provide assistance to the job development staff in preparing the inmate for release.
Conduct staff development training for the case managers.
Participate in the program planning process for the inmate.
Maintain communications with all other departments and participate on the program team.
Provide direct aid to the inmates with personal needs or problems, i.e., sickness, injury, family problems.
Review detailed background files and conduct personal interviews and recommend a program for each assigned inmate.
Provide continuous educational, vocational, personal and social adjustment counseling on an individual and group basis.
Recommend necessary program modifications throughout each inmate’s assigned stay.
Utilize new concepts and approaches; recommend and conduct training sessions and conferences to develop greater proficiency among staff in the areas of guidance and social adjustment.
Recommend medical and psychiatric evaluation for emotional or psychological problems.
Evaluate results and take remedial action as warranted.
Provide staff with the necessary community resources registry that will help in transition of the inmate.
Promote the development of positive social skills through modeling appropriate behaviors and intervening when inappropriate behaviors are observed.
Maintain accountability of inmates and property; adhere to safety practices.
It is expected that the incumbent shall perform other duties as assigned within his/her capabilities as determined by management.
