About The Position

The Carrier Onboarding & Compliance Specialist is responsible for executing the company’s carrier qualification, onboarding, and risk assessment processes to ensure alignment with safety, compliance, and operational standards. This role provides a critical compliance function within the transportation network by validating carrier credentials, mitigating fraud and cargo theft exposure, and supporting adherence to federal regulations, contractual requirements, insurance standards, and internal risk policies.

Requirements

  • Prior experience in carrier onboarding, brokerage operations, transportation compliance, risk, or logistics preferred.
  • Knowledge of FMCSA regulations, carrier authority requirements, and transportation insurance standards preferred.
  • Strong analytical and investigative skills with the ability to make sound compliance determinations.
  • High attention to detail with exceptional recordkeeping and documentation abilities.
  • Ability to work effectively in a high-volume, time-sensitive environment with strong prioritization and task management skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills for internal and external coordination.
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise professional judgment, confidentiality, and discretion in handling compliance matters.

Nice To Haves

  • Proficiency with compliance and vetting platforms such as Highway, Carrier411, and FMCSA SAFER systems is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Administer the carrier onboarding workflow and verify qualification criteria using internal policies and approved third-party systems (e.g., Highway, Carrier411, FMCSA SAFER).
  • Conduct due diligence on all prospective carriers to ensure compliance with applicable FMCSA, DOT, insurance, safety, authority, and internal requirements.
  • Perform detailed reviews of carrier operating authority, insurance coverage, safety ratings, contact details, equipment profiles, ownership information, and historical performance indicators.
  • Identify and escalate risks related to double brokering, identity theft, fraudulent insurance activity, operational inconsistencies, authority issues, and cargo theft trends.
  • Maintain accurate compliance documentation, onboarding files, audit notes, and system records in accordance with company standards.
  • Execute follow-up communications with carriers to obtain missing or clarifying information and resolve discrepancies prior to approval.
  • Partner with Brokerage, Risk, and Operations stakeholders to align carrier utilization with customer requirements, commodity classifications, and contractual obligations.
  • Continuously monitor active carriers for compliance deviations, including changes to authority status, insurance cancellations or modifications, safety scores, and contact information.
  • Support internal compliance audits and contribute to the refinement of carrier qualification policies, controls, and standard operating procedures.
  • Stay informed on industry compliance trends, emerging fraud mechanisms, and regulatory updates impacting carrier engagement practices.
