Job Description The University of Nevada, Reno is conducting a recruitment for a Carpenter 2 for the Facilities Maintenance Services Department (FMS). This position is responsible for providing skilled roofing and carpentry services to maintain and repair facilities while serving as a lead worker who coordinates daily work activities, supports staff development, and ensures work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with established standards. Duties include (but are not limited to): Maintain and repair a variety of roofing systems and components; Respond to leak reports and warranty calls; Inspect existing roofs, contracted roofing work, and new roof installations; Review plans and designs for new roofing projects; Perform skilled carpentry work in a professional manner to maintain and repair buildings, structures, and fixtures; Maintain and repair doors, jambs, windows, ceilings, roofs, walls, stairs, flooring, and concrete surfaces; Perform preventative maintenance in accordance with established schedules, procedures, and safety standards; Serve as lead worker by providing training and technical guidance; assign, monitor, and review work; Provide input for performance evaluations; Assist the supervisor with the development and implementation of standard operating procedures; Assess work priorities and critical issues; Prepare operational reports; and Other duties as assigned. Requirements

  • This position requires the completion of a recognized carpentry apprenticeship program followed by one (1) year of journey level carpenter experience; OR An equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.
  • A valid Class “C” driver’s license or higher operator’s license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
  • OSHA 10 certificate must be obtained within one year of employment.
