About The Position

The mission of the Allen Institute is to unlock the complexities of bioscience and advance our knowledge to improve human health. Using an open science, multi-scale, team-oriented approach, the Allen Institute focuses on accelerating foundational research, developing standards and models, and cultivating new ideas to make a broad, transformational impact on science. The mission of the Allen Institute administration team is to provide support and structure to the scientific divisions. Coinciding with the team science approach, administration helps facilitate team learning and the overall mission of the institute. The Allen Institute is seeking an experienced Career Development Partner to coach and provide career development programing to employees. This is an opportunity to put your career coaching, facilitation, and program management skills to use supporting employees in a way that helps them thrive in their career. This role reports to the Director, Learning Experience and Development (LEaD) and will work with People & Culture and partners across the organization to support and develop our LEaD program portfolio. The Career Development Partner will provide career coaching, coordinate and design monthly career development workshops, and partner with external vendors and internal customers to offer other development opportunities throughout the year. This role will collaborate with outside educational institutions and services to understand requirements for admission, as well as career progression and educational resources available for employees. This position will also work directly with employees to understand their career ambitions, identify what is necessary to achieve career goals, and create development plans for individual career goal attainment. Requirements

  • Bachelors degree or equivalent work experience in career consulting, recruiting or related fields
  • 3 years of experience in the delivery of job search strategy/career coaching to individuals
  • Experience with resume and/or CV development, interview preparation, career exploration, LinkedIn profiles, and other social media platforms, plus other aspects of job search coaching

Nice To Haves

  • 5 years of experience in the delivery of job search strategy/career coaching to individuals
  • Experience working in science or at a scientific organization
  • Strong MS Office 2010 experience Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint Office 365 experience preferred
  • Project management experience skills to work with teams to deliver projects on time
  • Proven track record of designing and executing successful training programs

Responsibilities

  • Advises and coaches employees on career development, transition issues, and career options
  • Provides coaching and consultation on résumé & CV writing, networking, and interviewing skills
  • Coordinates, designs, and facilitates monthly Career Development Workshop series
  • Works with established external online content vendors to vet and promote additional career development opportunities
  • Connects with leaders to understand the skills necessary to fulfill jobs and advance through career ladders
  • Engages with outside educational institutions and services to identify educational and career opportunities and requirements
  • Tracks career development program analytics and identifies key takeaways
  • Ability to inspire trust and exercise discretion, confidentiality, and exemplary judgment
  • Superior interpersonal and communication (oral and written) skills, while being an empathetic listener and creative problem-solver
  • Strong organizational and project management skills
  • Highly professional demeanor and self-directed approach to work
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently, as well as collaborate with others and work well in a team
