About The Position

The Career Consultant for the Summer Youth Work Experience (SYWE) program supports youth with disabilities (ages 16–21) participating in summer work experiences. The Consultant provides hands-on job coaching, work-readiness instruction, and individualized career support to help students build foundational workplace skills, gain exposure to career pathways, and successfully complete their summer employment assignments.

Requirements

• Minimum two years' experience in Workforce Development, Education, Youth Services, or Disabilities Services.
• CPR, First Aid, and crisis intervention certification (or willingness to obtain).
• Valid Ohio driver’s license with insurance.
• Strong youth-focused coaching and communication skills.
• Ability to motivate and mentor students from diverse backgrounds.
• Knowledge of workplace readiness and disability-inclusive employment strategies.
• Ability to manage multiple worksites and priorities.
• Strong problem-solving, judgment, and conflict-resolution abilities.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and digital documentation tools.

Nice To Haves

• Experience working with youth or individuals with disabilities preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide daily, on-site job coaching to SYWE participants. Ratio is typically 4 Participants to 1 Career Consultant
• Model and reinforce soft skills including punctuality, teamwork, and communication.
• Deliver age-appropriate workplace readiness instruction when needed
• Assist youth in identifying strengths, interests, and future career goals.
• Serve as liaison between students, families, employers, and program staff.
• Support employers in understanding participant needs.
• Maintain accurate, timely documentation including attendance and coaching logs.
• Ensure safety of all participants by following all program and onsite guidelines.
