About The Position

The Career Coach is responsible for assessing customers and developing customized job-readiness plans based on career level, including those starting, transitioning, or advancing their careers. This role identifies barriers to employment and training, develops solutions, and connects customers to resources leading to financial self-sufficiency. The Career Coach tracks and reports client progress through data management systems and ensures high-quality, outcome-driven workforce services. This position supports program performance goals and ensures service delivery aligns with applicable workforce program guidelines and reporting requirements.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree in human resources, human services, education, social services, public administration, or related field.
  • Two or more years of experience in human services or social services.
  • AAWDC Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate credits or 18 graduate credits may substitute for one year of experience; additional related experience may substitute for required education on the same basis.
  • Ability to work effectively in a positive team environment and a willingness to be coached.
  • Excellent communication skills, including clear and accurate writing and persuasive oral communication.
  • Knowledge of career counseling theories and techniques, including the impact of cultural values and the unique needs of diverse populations.
  • Experience with career assessments, Maryland Workforce Exchange (MWE), or other case management systems.
  • Demonstrated ability in barrier remediation, including identifying and addressing challenges that may impact a participant’s ability to obtain or retain employment (e.g., transportation, childcare, housing, digital access, and other socioeconomic barriers).
  • Strong knowledge of local resources and partner organizations within Anne Arundel County, with the ability to effectively connect participants to supportive services and maintain collaborative relationships with community partners
  • Experience preparing and conducting client workshops.
  • Strong organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize and manage deadlines.
  • Commitment to service delivery, teamwork, and client outcomes.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
  • Workforce Development Knowledge: Demonstrates basic knowledge of federal, state, and local workforce programs and legislation, including WIOA, Wagner-Peyser, TANF, WOTC, OJTs, ITAs, Veterans, and Re-entry. Understands workforce system language, basic policies, and compliance requirements. Uses case management systems to track client services and outcomes, and can locate workforce development resources as needed.
  • Customer Service & Case Management: Provides supportive, service-oriented assistance to job seekers and business clients. Conducts basic needs assessments, maintains accurate case files and records, and follows through on assigned tasks. Manages time effectively and uses available resources to support client engagement.
  • Communication & Collaboration: Communicates clearly and professionally with diverse populations. Prepares simple reports and materials, participates in meetings and workshops, and collaborates effectively on team projects.
  • Diversity & Inclusion: Demonstrates awareness of individual differences, including clients who are disabled, veterans, youth, or from underrepresented populations. Supports equitable access to workforce services and encourages exploration of non-traditional career paths.
  • Labor Market & Career Development Principles: Understands basic state and local labor market information and in-demand occupations. Applies foundational career development principles, supports assessment administration, and uses information to assist clients with career planning. Supports program implementation and engages with clients under guidance from supervisors.

Responsibilities

  • Client Assessment & Coaching:
  • Conduct interviews to assess clients’ skills, work history, career goals, and suitability for intensive and individualized services.
  • Identify employment barriers and collaborate with clients to develop comprehensive, individualized employment plans.
  • Provide ongoing career coaching, support, and follow-up to ensure successful implementation of employment plans.

  • Case Management & Support:
  • Monitor client progress in training programs, internships, or work-and-learn opportunities.
  • Provide resources and referrals to improve job readiness, including community and educational programs.
  • Follow up with clients to track progress and provide additional support as needed.
  • Data Management & Reporting:
  • Maintain client case files and records in management systems.
  • Track key metrics, such as job placements, training milestones, credentialing, workshop attendance, and follow-ups.
  • Prepare reports and summaries for supervisors to support program progress and outcome reporting.
  • Outreach & Collaboration:
  • Assist in organizing job fairs, workshops, and community outreach events.
  • Work cross-functionally with internal AAWDC teams, training institutions, and apprenticeship programs to ensure effective service delivery.
  • Information Sharing:
  • Leverage labor market intelligence and workforce data to educate job seekers on labor market trends, economic conditions, and high-growth occupations.
  • Help clients understand workforce services and resources to support career development.
  • Integration with AAWDC Initiatives:
  • Work in conjunction with other AAWDC programs and initiatives to develop employment and training strategies and stay updated on job-ready pipelines.
  • Administration & Additional Duties:
  • Attend staff meetings, conferences, and AAWDC functions assigned.
  • Assist other departments or take on additional tasks as assigned.
