About The Position

This is an open competitive advertisement for a Career Service position as a Career and Technical Education (CTE) teacher specializing in Wastewater, located at Gadsden Correctional Institution in the Education Department. The mission of the Education Department is to provide comprehensive educational programs and services to inmates, aiming to enhance their academic, vocational, and life skills. The goal is to promote personal development, successful reintegration into society, reduce recidivism, and support inmates in becoming productive, law-abiding citizens through quality education and training. This position is not a telework position and requires reporting to the FDC office in the area it serves.

Requirements

  • A high school diploma or its equivalent and three (3) years’ experience in the CTE subject area being taught; or Possession of current licensure or certification(s) in the CTE being taught or a postsecondary certificate of completion (must submit transcript/certificate of completion) may substitute for up to one (1) year of the required experience.
  • Must hold the applicable subject area license or industry certification or be willing to possess within 12 months of hire.
  • Possess or be eligible to apply for a Temporary Florida Department of Corrections Educator’s Certificate or if applicable a temporary State of Florida Educator's Certificate.
  • A Class C Water and/or Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator License.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, develops, and conducts classes in assigned subjects, utilizing various teaching techniques to assist student advancement.
  • Supervises inmates in the class, conduct roll calls, counts, and maintain attendance records.
  • Ensures order, discipline, tool control, and safety in the classroom and/or shop.
  • Evaluates student progress, administers grades and tests, and counsel’s individuals on program progress, behavior, or personal concerns.
  • Participates in staff meetings, seminars, and workshops for curriculum changes and professional development, and assist in budget preparation and purchase requests for the education program.
