About The Position

Join University of Chicago Medicine, as a Cardiac Sonographer I in the Pediatric Heart Station at our Comer Children's Hospital.
In this role, a Cardiac Sonographer I prepares patients for Transthoracic Echo and Stress Echo procedures, reviewing indications, comparing previous studies to accurately answer all questions by referring physician. Performs all aspects of echocardiographic imaging under the direct supervision of a Cardiac Sonographer II or III and under the general supervision of the Medical Director of the Noninvasive Cardiac Imaging Laboratory.

Requirements

• High School Graduate or equivalent.
• BLS certification through The American Heart Association and Registration by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) or by Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) and pass the registry within one year of hire.
• From 1 to 5 years’ experience required in ultrasound procedures equipment, CW Doppler, and related anatomy and pathological conditions of the heart, valves, pericardium, and blood vessels.
• Independently perform a complete transthoracic examination with appropriate use of contrast when necessary.
• Perform quantitative echocardiographic measurements for reporting.
• Demonstrates responsibility for checking orders and obtaining orders for testing.

Responsibilities

• Preparing patients for Transthoracic echo reviewing indications, comparing previous studies to accurately answer all questions by referring physician, and communicates with patients, customers, and staff in a respectful and compassionate manner.
• Utilizes ISCV data archiving system and Electronic Medical Records system to record, charge and report procedures.
• Actively participates in process improvement activities.
• Involved in research and publications to be at the cutting edge of the field.
• Performs other duties assigned.
