About The Position

Be a part of a world-class academic healthcare system, UChicago Medicine as an Cardiac Device Technician I, at our DCAM-Hyde Park clinic. Here, you will work with our Heart & Vascular teams. This position is a 100% onsite opportunity. You will need to be based in the greater Chicagoland area. Under the direct supervision of an attending physician, the Cardiac Device Technician assists in providing care to patients requiring a variety of diagnostic and therapeutic cardiac rhythm devices. Duties include, but are not limited to, evaluation and reprogramming of implantable pacemakers, defibrillators and loop recorders, and ambulatory and remote monitoring. Provides care to both inpatients and outpatients. The Cardiac Device Technician must possess adequate knowledge of cardiovascular anatomy and physiology, medical terminology and cardiac rhythms to perform related cardiac procedures.

Requirements

  • At least two years of experience in device interrogation and in a cardiovascular medicine clinic.
  • A thorough knowledge of the anatomy and physiology of cardiovascular system required.
  • Proven visual acuity, manual dexterity and accuracy required.
  • Independent judgment and initiative required in order to utilize the specialized equipment involved and work within a complex organizational structure.
  • Experience in all modalities of device interrogation formats
  • Experience in EKG identification
  • Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)

Nice To Haves

  • Certified Cardiology Device Specialist (CCDS) or working towards accreditation preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the interrogation and programming of pacemakers, ICDs and CRT devices for a complex and diverse cardiovascular patient population
  • Identifies and seeks appropriate therapy for basic and complex arrhythmias and device malfunction
  • Manages remote device interrogations
  • Responsible for patient follow up and care coordination
  • Communicates findings to providers and other staff members
