The City of Cedar Rapids does not offer sponsorship for employment authorization.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Civil Engineering or a related field and
  • Five (5) to seven (7) years of experience in engineering design and specifications, including engineering project management from project conception through construction completion or
  • An equivalent combination of education and/or experience
  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse populations
  • Licensed Professional Engineer in the State of Iowa, or ability to obtain within 6 months if licensed in another state

  • Experience with government agency coordination and State and Federal Grant Programs
  • Organizational leadership and management experience

Responsibilities

  • Oversees Capital Improvement Program projects and budgets
  • Coordinates CIP projects with other City departments and serves as the department's liaison to respond to media contacts concerning CIP projects
  • Supervises the work of assigned personnel, including assigning and reviewing work, providing guidance, and conducting performance evaluations
  • Serves on district committee for the Statewide Urban Design and Specifications (SUDAS) organization
  • Serves on the Transportation Technical Advisory Committee (TTAC) for the Corridor Metropolitan Planning Organization.
  • Suggests and assists in improving the quality of consultant professional services.
  • Develops process improvements
  • Develops and delivers presentations to City Council, neighborhood associations, business interests, and general public
  • Programs and budgets projects in Public Works' 5-year Capital Improvement Program
  • Manages and coordinates public outreach efforts on CIP projects during design and construction. Responds to citizens' questions and comments in a courteous and timely manner
  • Performs related work as required
