About The Position

This position's responsibilities are to patrol school property, and to respond to incidents pertaining to the safety and protection of district students, staff and property. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Depending upon the individual assignment, the Campus Safety Assistant – Night Security may perform all or a combination of the following: 1. Patrol areas in and around schools and district buildings as needed; confronts trespassers as necessary; assists in the intervention of individuals who are committing or suspected of committing crimes on district property. 2. Responds to overnight alarm calls during assigned shifts. Responds to weekend alarm calls received at any time of the day if assigned a weekend shift. 3. Responds to calls pertaining to the safety and protection of district staff and property. 4. Responsible for maintaining clear and concise logs of all nightly occurrences including suspicious activity, property damage, theft, presence of unauthorized persons, or unusual occurrences. 5. Notifies local law enforcement or fire department in cases of emergency such as fire, presence of unauthorized persons, or burglary. Immediately reports such occurrences to supervisor. 6. Performs all duties in a safe manner to include safely operating a district vehicle. 7. Create and complete reports accurately and in a timely manner. 8. Maintains confidential information as appropriate. 9. Maintains positive working relationships with district staff, administration and outside agencies. OTHER FUNCTIONS 10. Operates cellular phone and drives a district vehicle. 11. May serve on various district and/or departmental work teams. Models appropriate and cooperative behavior, including protecting confidential information consistent with district ethical guidelines. 12. Required to work weekends and holidays when they fall on assigned shifts. 13. Performs related duties consistent with the scope and intent of the position. 14. Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Education, training, skills and experience necessary to carry out the assignment
  • Skill in communicating with individuals and groups of all ages, backgrounds, and educational levels.
  • Ability to maintain control of tense and potentially dangerous situations.
  • Skill in proper use of security equipment.
  • Knowledge of investigatory techniques preferred.
  • Skill in monitoring security and safety.
  • Ability to make effective, quick decisions.
  • Ability to perceive security and safety breaches.
  • Ability to assess emergency situations.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure.
  • Ability to accurately document activities and occurrences.
  • Ability to communicate security and safety procedures to district staff and students.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to function effectively in a multi-ethnic and culturally diverse environment.
  • Skill in listening and evaluating information.
  • Ability to establish and maintain strong and effective working relationships with a culturally diverse population or staff, students, public, and law enforcement personnel.
  • Requires fingerprinting and background check to determine that there have been no convictions involving physical molestations, abuse, injury or neglect of a minor.
  • Must complete training in and adhere to district infection control plan.
  • Valid Washington state driver's license and a good driving record.
  • Sufficient physical agility to perform assigned duties.

Nice To Haves

  • one (1) year of experience in law enforcement or security field preferred.
  • Training or experience in security patrols, de-escalation techniques, and observation report preferred
  • training or experience working with diverse racial, ethnic and cultural groups preferred.
