About The Position

As a professional within the Campus Recreation Department, the Campus Recreation Coordinator, Youth & Instructional Programs Management role provides programmatic, operational, and fiscal oversight for youth programs, instructional services, and auxiliary revenue-generating initiatives. Reporting to the Campus Recreation Associate Director, this position is responsible for program implementation, revenue growth, budget monitoring, and cross-departmental collaboration, while applying a student development philosophy. This position ensures compliance with all University of New Hampshire and USNH risk policies and procedures as they relate to Campus Recreation youth and instructional program offerings. This role also provides supervisory support to addresses behavioral and disciplinary matters in accordance with Campus Recreation and University protocols.

Requirements

  • Minimum Acceptable Education & Experience: Bachelor’s Degree in Recreation, Sports Management, Education, Student Life or related field or an Associate’s Degree with the combination of education and experience equaling to: 4 years of experience in coordinating youth and/ or instructional programming to include implementation. 4 years of experience with budget management, pricing models and revenue-generating programs 2 years of experience implementing and evaluating risk management practices. 2 years of hiring, training and supervising non-exempt and professional staff.
  • Required Licenses & Certifications: Current, good standing driver’s license along with the ability to obtain Defensive Driving Certification through the University of New Hampshire.
  • Knowledge Knowledge of risk management principles, safety practices, and regulations related to youth programs and instructional services. Understanding of university policies and procedures, including Protection of Minors requirements and facility-based youth programming standards.
  • Skills Strong written and verbal communication skills. Demonstrated interpersonal skills with the ability to build effective relationships with students, staff, campus partners, and external stakeholders. Strong problem-solving, organizational, and project management skills. Ability to analyze participation, utilization, and revenue data to inform planning, assess program effectiveness, and guide resource allocation.
  • Abilities Ability to collaborate effectively with campus and external partners to align resources and advance Campus Recreation and Memorial Union Building initiatives. Ability to exercise independent judgment in managing youth and instructional programs while aligning decisions with departmental policies and University goals. Ability to recruit, hire, train, supervise, and evaluate hourly, student, and adjunct staff using a student development philosophy. Ability to manage multiple programs and priorities simultaneously in a dynamic, customer-focused environment.
  • Other Requirements: Willing and able to work nights, weekends and/ or extended periods.

Responsibilities

  • Youth Program Operations and Revenue Management (35%) Provide oversight for youth programs generating more than $400,000 in annual revenue, including Camp Wildcat, Summer Youth Sailing, and academic-year youth offerings. Support revenue generation and program growth by working collaboratively with Campus Recreation and Memorial Union Building professional and hourly staff to implement fee-based revenue-generating programs. Establish program pricing recommendations, enrollment targets, and operational frameworks that support financial sustainability and program viability.
  • Programmatic and Staff Oversight (25%) Provide administrative and managerial of the Summer Youth Sailing Program. Supervise seasonal Camp Wildcat Director, Youth Program Assistants, and student hourly and adjunct staff. Maintain administrative, supervisory, and reporting structures necessary to implement and assess youth and instructional programs. Oversee program planning, scheduling, and evaluation to ensure alignment with departmental goals. Lead recruitment, hiring, training, scheduling, and performance evaluation for program staff.
  • Instructional and Academic-Year Program Development (25%) Develop, implement and administer fee-based instructional services and youth programs during the academic year. Expand after-school and alternative youth programming to support effective use of facilities during non-peak hours and respond to community demand. Collaborate with the Lifetime Activity Program, Health Services, and other campus partners to deliver instructional offerings. Counsel MUB staff on using available space for revenue-generating youth initiatives, including internal and external camp rentals, youth birthday party packages, and youth program offerings. Collaborate with marketing and communications staff to support program promotion, outreach, and enrollment. Collect and analyze program participation, operational, and revenue data to support program evaluation and improvement.
  • Risk Management (15%) Ensure aforementioned programs remain compliance with USNH Protection of Minors, Travel, and Vehicle Management policies and procedures. Provide administrative oversight and guidance for Campus Recreation youth programs to support safe operations and risk mitigation. Support the Campus Recreation Learn-to-Swim program by ensuring swim instructors and aquatics staff adhere to USNH Protection of Minors policies and procedures, in coordination with aquatics and risk management staff. Collaborate with campus partners to implement risk management initiatives and strengthen compliance practices across youth programs and instructional services.
  • Additional Responsibilities Represent Campus Recreation on committees and working groups as assigned. Participate in professional development to remain current with best practices in youth programming, instructional services, and risk management. Perform other duties as assigned as necessitated by the University of New Hampshire Division of Student Life.
