About The Position

PRIMARY PURPOSE/GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Reporting to the Director of Leadership Annual Giving and Scripps Fund, the Campaign Leadership Annual Giving Officer (CLAGO) will play a critical role in growing The CLAGO will serve as a frontline fundraiser for leadership annual gifts ($1,000-$24,999). The CLAGO will help increase the number of donors and philanthropic dollars raised through qualification and solicitation efforts. This position will be charged with qualifying, disqualifying, renewing, retaining, upgrading, and passing along donors to campus partners. The CLAGO will collaborate with staff in External Relations and Institutional Advancement (ERIA) to renew and upgrade existing leadership giving donors, identify new prospects, and support major gift pipeline development. The CLAGO will build and strengthen a culture of philanthropy at Scripps through the Leadership Annual Giving program by using multiple strategies, including direct marketing and personal solicitation. Knowledge of industry best practices in higher education annual fund or other non-profits.
Demonstrated ability to exercise sensitivity and judgment in dealing with staff, prospects, and members of the public.
Competence in database utilization and a variety of software programs used to track solicitation efforts and results.
Proficient in Microsoft Office.
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in a relevant field, or any combination of education, training, or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the job.
Minimum two years of experience in non-profit fundraising, secondary or higher education advancement, and/or a related field development experience, including annual or membership campaigns.
Demonstrated experience in engaging academic leaders, faculty, and volunteer partners in the development of meaningful and productive relationships with prospects and donors.

Experienced with CRM databases (particularly Raiser's Edge NXT), GiveCampus/GiveCampus – GO, third party email clients, and other graphic design software preferred.

Responsibilities

Manage a portfolio of up to 250 alumnae and parent constituents.
Work with portfolio daily to move constituents through qualifying and renewal cycles.
Actively qualify new prospects, renew and upgrade existing donors, and strategically disqualify or hand off prospects when appropriate.
In partnership with members of the ERIA team, work to develop a culture of leadership giving, with an emphasis on increasing the number of donors giving at this level.
Collaborate with campus partners to understand and promote priorities and giving opportunities for annual gifts.
Personally cultivate, solicit, and steward gifts in the $1,000–$24,999 range, with emphasis on growing membership in the Ellen Browning Scripps Society (EBSS) and Parent Leadership Council.
Conduct regular donor outreach, averaging 8–10 substantive phone calls and 25 written communications (emails, letters, or personalized videos) per week.
Communicate with constituents through phone, email, LinkedIn, mail, Zoom, and other industry-standard methods.
Make a minimum of 50 personal solicitations annually.
Meet and exceed metrics for both dollar and donor goals.
Partner with Prospect Research and Management to update, adjust, and maintain portfolio; ensure timely entry of all interactions and strategies into the donor database.
Participate in professional development activities, cross team planning and in regular meetings as appropriate with ERIA, Scripps Fund, and Philanthropy teams.
Actively contribute to the growth and enhancement of the Leadership Annual Giving program as a thought partner with Director, Scripps Fund and AVP, Philanthropy.
Partner with colleagues across ERIA to develop stewardship and retention strategies for annual giving donors and giving society members.
Staff on- and off- campus College events, such as Reunion Weekend, Welcome Receptions, etc.to support donor and volunteer engagement.
Identify Leadership Annual Giving prospects and develop individual solicitation and stewardship plans for them.
Annually contact around 300 prospects through substantial interactions and prospect development.
Ensure successful gift solicitation of key prospects.
Make a minimum of 120 personal solicitations annually.
Personally cultivate, solicit, and steward Leadership Annual gifts.
Champion discovery activities to enrich the prospect pipeline for leadership annual giving and major gifts.
In collaboration with the philanthropy team staff, strategically hand off qualified prospects at appropriate levels and giving types: leadership, major gift and principal gifts as well as planned and foundation gifts.
Collaborate with campus partners to understand and promote giving priorities for annual and leadership gifts.
Develop strategies and execute personal solicitations to retain, acquire, and upgrade donors in Ellen Browning Scripps Society (EBSS) and Parent Leadership Council (gifts of $2,000+).
Contribute to team-wide planning, goal setting, and professional development opportunities as part of the Annual Giving and ERIA teams.
Document contacts and personal fundraising strategies in the donor database.
Travel regularly for donor meetings and College events, including Reunion Weekend, welcome receptions, and regional gatherings.
Active support for the College’s Principles of Community and Institutional Values in the performance of job duties.
