About The Position

The Camp Program Manager leads the planning and implementation of all council camp experiences, including resident, day, expedition, volunteer-led, and partner-led camps. In alignment with strategic direction established by the Senior Director, this role ensures high-quality, safe, and mission-aligned programming across camp properties and formats. The Manager serves as the council’s lead for American Camp Association (ACA) accreditation at the accredited property and coordinates compliance, risk management, and operational readiness. Working cross-functionally, this position supports sustainable growth, strong enrollment performance, and consistent volunteer and staff engagement across multiple camp formats.

Requirements

  • 3–5+ years of progressive leadership experience in camp administration, youth development, outdoor education, or related programming.
  • Demonstrated experience managing seasonal staff, supervising program operations, and working effectively with volunteers.
  • Experience developing and managing program budgets; experience collaborating with external partners or vendors preferred.
  • Strong operational planning, project management, and organizational skills with attention to safety, compliance, and documentation requirements.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, analyze data, and make sound operational decisions.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills with the ability to build positive relationships across staff, volunteers, and community partners.
  • Demonstrated professionalism, sound judgment, and ability to model appropriate behavior and inclusive practices when working with staff and youth.
  • Maintain a valid driver’s license and meet council insurance eligibility requirements; be comfortable operating council vehicles, including large passenger vans, as needed.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
  • Ability to travel regularly to camp properties and be on-site, including overnight stays during resident camp sessions or other key operational periods as needed.
  • Ability to respond appropriately and promptly in emergency situations and work effectively in outdoor environments and varying weather conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the planning and execution of all camp formats, including resident, day, expedition/travel, volunteer-led, and partner-led programs.
  • Implement and uphold council standards for safety, quality, and participant experience across camp properties and programs.
  • Strengthen intentional camper progression pathways (first-time camper, returning camper, counselor-in-training (CIT), staff) and support year-round property readiness.
  • Identify, evaluate, and manage program partners to expand camp offerings, ensuring alignment with council mission, safety standards, and risk requirements.
  • Evaluate program and partner performance and implement improvements to enhance impact and operational efficiency.
  • Serve as primary liaison to the American Camp Association for the accredited property.
  • Coordinate and monitor compliance with ACA standards and lead accreditation preparation and documentation.
  • Oversee health, safety, and emergency response protocols, ensuring required training and certifications are maintained.
  • Escalate significant compliance or safety concerns to the Senior Director as appropriate.
  • Develop seasonal staffing structures and supervise seasonal Camp Directors and program leads.
  • Partner with HR to recruit, hire, onboard, and train seasonal camp staff.
  • Establish structured systems to recruit, train, and support camp volunteers in coordination with Regional and Learning & Development teams.
  • Promote staff and volunteer retention through leadership development and engagement strategies.
  • Develop and manage annual camp operating budgets in partnership with Finance and the Senior Director.
  • Monitor revenue, expenses, and enrollment performance; analyze trends and recommend adjustments to support growth.
  • Collaborate with Marketing on camp enrollment campaigns and materials, ensuring accurate program information and compelling outreach messaging.
  • Partner with Fund Development on camp-related grant applications, tracking, and reporting.
  • Partner with Marketing, Finance, HR, Properties, Retail, Customer Care, Girl Experience, and Learning & Development to ensure aligned and efficient camp operations.
  • Provide regular updates to senior leadership on enrollment, compliance, staffing, partnerships, and operational performance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
