Camp Greenville is an overnight camp established in 1912 that hosts boys and girls from throughout the region and the world for summer camps, retreats and specialty camps. The Camp Program Manager supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. Under the direction of the Director of Camper and Family Programs, the Camp Program Manager will assist with leadership, support, and program direction to summer base camp, family camp and weekends, and adventure programs. This position will also support summer camp operations while camp is in session. Compensation will be determined commensurate qualifications and experience.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience in a field compatible to the mission and work of the YMCA
  • A minimum of one (1) year of experience in program development and management including budgeting, recruiting, staffing, training
  • Six (6) months to a year of overnight summer camping experience
  • Must have the ability to live on-site
  • Current certification in or ability to complete CPR, 1st Aid, AED training
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to meet the minimum requirements of the YMCA insurance carrier
  • Professional experience working with varied groups including children, adolescents, college students, adults, parents, teachers
  • Must have good interpersonal, public relations and communications skills, including the ability to make oral presentations.
  • Must be able to effectively work with and motivate other staff and volunteers
  • Ability to respond to safety and emergency situations.
  • Incumbent must complete mandatory training of New Staff Orientation, BBP/Child Abuse Prevention and CPR/First Aid/AED training within 30 days of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Program Leadership & Mission Alignment
  • Support the leadership of summer and year-round programs in a manner consistent with the mission of camp.
  • Work with the staff team to ensure the smooth and safe operation of camp.
  • Serve as the main support for activity area staff and the Program Division Leader.
  • Represent camp at special events and community outreach opportunities.
  • Participate in meetings, training, and off-site committees to enhance overall camp programming.
  • Maintain relationships in relevant professional organizations (ACA, YMCA).
  • Program Planning, Coordination & Implementation
  • Manage program area logistics and planning for the summer base camp program.
  • Assist with logistics for summer and year-round adventure trip and travel programs.
  • Support the planning, coordination, and implementation of family camp weekends.
  • Serve as the “first on call” for programming during weekend events.
  • Responsible for day-to-day scheduling and accountability of summer activity areas.
  • Assist with promotion of all Camp Greenville programs in conjunction with branch/Association marketing plans.
  • Staff Recruitment, Development & Supervision
  • Assist with recruitment, training, supervision, and scheduling of high-quality, mission-minded staff and volunteers for summer camp and family camp weekends.
  • Assist with recruitment and selection of Leadership Development Program participants.
  • Develop and maintain communication and relationships with summer staff and Leadership Development participants to foster unity, engagement, and program quality.
  • Operations, Safety & Compliance
  • Ensure standards are met and safety procedures are followed.
  • Serve in the “Staff On Duty” role as assigned (weekends, stayovers, summer evenings).
  • Serve as Supervisor on Duty as assigned.
  • Physical ability to perform emergency procedures.
  • Work non-traditional hours, including early mornings and evenings.
  • Administration, Budget & Communication
  • Work with direct supervisor to develop and monitor program budget to meet fiscal objectives.
  • Be present during office hours at Camp Greenville as assigned.
  • Follow all communication protocols, including timely message return, meeting deadlines, professional phone/internet/radio communication, conflict resolution, and calendar upkeep.
  • Handle confidential information in a private and professional manner.
  • Member & Community Relations
  • Respond to member and community inquiries and complaints in a timely manner.
  • Represent the branch at meetings related to the position, including assigned branch and association committees.
  • Other Expectations
  • Adhere to policies related to boundaries with consumers.
  • Attend/complete required abuse risk management training
  • Adhere to procedures related to managing high-risk activities and supervising consumers.
  • Follow mandated reporting requirements.
  • Adhere to job specific abuse risk management responsibilities.
  • Follow employees and volunteers screening requirements and use screening instruments to screen for abuse risk.
  • Provide employees and volunteers with ongoing supervision and training related to abuse risk.
  • Provide employees and volunteers with regular feedback regarding their boundaries with consumers.
  • Require employees and volunteers to adhere to policies and procedures related to abuse risk.
  • Respond quickly to policy and procedure violations using the organization’s progressive disciplinary procedures.
  • Respond seriously and confidentially to reports of suspicious and inappropriate behaviors.
  • Follow mandated reporting requirements.
  • Communicate to all employees and volunteers the organization’s commitment to protect their consumer from abuse.
  • Report essential abuse risk management information to the board of directors.
