About The Position

IKUS Life Enrichment Services and Indian Trails Camp are looking for a compassionate RN, LPN, or EMT to serve as our Summer Camp Nurse for the 2026 season! Optional year-round opportunities for Weekend Respite Camps are also available. IKUS / Indian Trails Camp is a nonprofit organization dedicated to enriching the lives of individuals with disabilities through relationships, recreation, and advocacy. Nestled on 30 acres of forest, our barrier-free camp offers campers of all abilities the chance to explore, learn, and grow. With state-of-the-art facilities and a focus on inclusion, our programs foster fun, friendship, perseverance, teamwork, and self-reliance for campers aged 5 and up. Why Apply? As our Camp Nurse, you'll start each day with a check in on each camper's health needs and planning the day's treatments and medications. After a breakfast prepared by our own camp chef, you'll join campers in activities, providing care as needed while also enjoying the energy and fun of camp. Evenings are spent around a campfire, or attending the talent shows under the stars, building relationships and memories that last a lifetime. Living Requirements Summer Camp runs 10 weeks, May-August, with sessions from Sunday afternoon to Friday afternoon-leaving your weekends free to recharge. Housing and meals are provided on campus, including private cabins with showers and bathrooms. Families may be accommodated with prior approval.

Requirements

  • MI state-licensed RN or LPN (EMT considered with training).
  • Current First Aid and CPR certifications; other safety certifications preferred or willingness to obtain.
  • Experience with individuals with disabilities highly preferred.
  • Compassionate, patient, and empathetic demeanor with excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to stay calm under pressure and act decisively
  • Active participation in camp activities, including assisting campers with mobility needs.
  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions, remain on your feet, and perform physical tasks.
  • High energy and enthusiasm throughout the day.
  • No alcohol or drug use while on camp premises.
  • Must have the physical, auditory, and visual ability to respond to critical incidents.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of summer camp health procedures a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Provide daily medical care to campers and camp staff, addressing both routine and unique medical needs, administering medications, first aid, and emergency care.
  • Oversee medical intake process and assist with developing and implementing individualized care plans.
  • Administer medications for campers daily in a safe, accurate, and timely manner
  • Maintain accurate, up-to-date medical records following state and ACA standards.
  • Train, lead and mentor your team of health officers
  • Make rounds throughout the day to monitor camper and staff wellbeing.
  • Prepare the Health Center for the season and manage its close at the end of camp.
  • Communicate with parents/guardians and camp staff regarding medical needs or updates
  • Ensure camp complies with health and safety regulations.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized Health Center.
  • On call during the night on a rotating basis.
