About The Position

The Seasonal Aquatics Coordinator supports the mission of the Attleboro YMCA by leading safe, engaging, and inclusive aquatics programming at the Norton Outdoor Center pool and splash pad, including oversight of water-based activities for Camp Finberg. This individual provides direct service and leadership to ensure high-quality experiences for youth, families, and staff.

Requirements

  • Minimum age: 18 years
  • At least 2 years of experience in aquatics programming
  • Current certifications (or ability to obtain within required timeline): YMCA Lifeguard Certification (within 6 months) YMCA Swim Instructor v6 (within 90 days) Basic Life Support, First Aid, Emergency Oxygen (within 60 days) Child Abuse Prevention (pre-hire and annual) HSI Instructor (within 90 days) Swim Instructor Trainer (within 6 months) Y Cause and Culture (within 30 days)
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Active work outdoors for extended periods, including standing, walking, bending, and swimming.
  • Ability to remain calm and make effective decisions in emergencies.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience supervising or mentoring staff preferred

Responsibilities

  • Staff Supervision: Schedule, supervise, and evaluate lifeguards and swim instructors at the Norton Outdoor Center and Camp Finberg. Provide ongoing coaching and support to ensure safety and member satisfaction.
  • Training & Safety: Lead CPR/First Aid training for Camp Finberg staff. Ensure all aquatics staff are properly certified and prepared to respond to emergencies.
  • Instruction: Deliver swim lessons to youth of all ages and abilities. Support seasonal staff in lesson planning and delivery. Be comfortable instructing parent/child, youth, and adaptive swim classes.
  • Scheduling & Communication: Manage swim lesson schedules, class consolidations, and waitlists. Communicate effectively with the Aquatics Director and camp leadership about program needs and issues.
  • Direct Service: Provide a minimum of 15 hours per week of direct service (lifeguarding and/or teaching swim lessons).
  • YMCA Standards: Enforce all YMCA policies and procedures, including safety protocols, child abuse prevention, and emergency preparedness.
  • Program Development: Ensure swim programming meets YMCA quality standards. Gather and incorporate participant and staff feedback.
  • Team Leadership: Lead in-service trainings and model a positive, inclusive approach to youth development and aquatic safety.
