About The Position

The Lifeguard position at Camp Foskett, under the direct supervision of the Waterfront Director, creates a safe and positive atmosphere that welcomes and respects all individuals while promoting and maintaining safe swimming conditions in the pool, beach, and surrounding areas in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures. This is a summer seasonal position with a start date of June 22nd going through August 23rd. Shifts will be between the hours of 7:45am to 4:15pm Monday-Friday. Requirements

  • Minimum age of 18 or 1 full year experience
  • Certifications: CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, Basic First Aid certification.
  • Current YMCA Lifeguarding or American Red Cross Lifeguarding and obtain or renew Lifeguarding Certification asap or within 30 days of hire.
  • Ability to maintain certification level of physical and mental readiness.
  • Must demonstrate lifeguard skills in accordance with YMCA standards.

Responsibilities

  • Enthusiasm, acceptance, sensitivity, patience, and self-control.
  • Plan and implement daily lessons and free swims. Complete lesson plans by the required time.
  • Help plan camp-wide activities.
  • Assist other camping staff when needed.
  • Attend all staff trainings, meetings, and Family Nights.
  • Commit to working at least 8 weeks of camp. If you need time-off, it MUST be approved prior to hiring.
  • Ensure the safety of campers and staff while in the waterfront areas.
  • Prepare, maintain, and breakdown the beach/swim areas daily.
  • Maintain equipment and property.
  • Develop progressive swim programs for all abilities.
  • Alert Waterfront Director or Camp Director of any dangerous situations.
  • Administer first-aid and CPR as necessary.
  • Abide by all rules, policies, and procedures established by the Montachusett YMCA in the Staff Handbook, and elsewhere as directed by YMCA Administration – including internet / cell phone policy.
  • Represent the YMCA and the community both on and off the clock.
  • Always be on time and in complete uniform.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Waterfront Director or Camp Director.
