About The Position

The Camp Aquatic Coordinator is responsible for the overall planning, supervision, and operation of all aquatic programming at camp, including the swimming pool, waterfront area, swim lessons, and aquatic special events. This role ensures safe, well-staffed, and high-quality aquatic experiences for campers and staff while maintaining compliance with all safety regulations and camp policies. The Camp Aquatics Supervisor serves as the primary aquatic leader and works closely with camp leadership to manage staffing, scheduling, training, and daily operations: Oversee daily operations of the pool and waterfront, including open swim, lessons, boating, and special events Ensure all aquatic areas meet safety, supervision, and regulatory standards Enforce pool and waterfront rules consistently and professionally Conduct daily safety checks of aquatic facilities, equipment, and rescue supplies Lead emergency response efforts and ensure proper incident documentation Supervise, mentor, and support lifeguards, swim instructors, and aquatic support staff Conduct aquatic staff briefings, in-service trainings, and skill refreshers Observe staff performance and provide real-time coaching and feedback Serve as the point person for all aquatic staffing and supervision decisions Maintain appropriate staff-to-camper ratios at all aquatic locations Ensure swim levels are assessed accurately and instruction is age-appropriate Support swim instructors with lesson planning, group management, and camper needs Create and manage daily and weekly aquatic staff schedules Coordinate rotations for pool, waterfront, swim lessons, and coverage needs Oversee waterfront activities such as boating, paddle craft, free swim, and themed aquatic events Work closely with the Camp Director, Assistant Director, and Health Supervisor

Requirements

  • At least one year of experience as a senior counselor or specialty director at a licensed day or resident camp.
  • Minimum age: 21 years old
  • Proven experience managing pool and waterfront operations
  • Experience supervising lifeguards and swim instructors
  • Strong background in swim lessons, aquatic programming, and safety protocols
  • Demonstrated ability to create and manage staff schedules
  • Excellent leadership, organization, and communication skills
  • Ability to remain calm and decisive in emergency situations
  • Completion of all required camp trainings, safety orientations, and in-services
  • Willingness to maintain certifications and attend ongoing training sessions

Nice To Haves

  • Current Lifeguard Certification (including CPR, First Aid, AED)
  • Waterfront Lifeguard Certification (if applicable)
  • Lifeguard Instructor or Water Safety Instructor (WSI) certification preferred
