About The Position

Provide supervision of seasonal Day Camp Counselors, volunteers, and campers. Planning, organizing, supervision, implementation, and oversight of daily schedule of activities for youth in both indoor and outdoor day camp recreational settings. Provide direct leadership and supervision to assigned day camp programs and services. Provide developmentally appropriate activities that meet the needs and interests of the participants. Implement camp activities in program setting according to established schedule. Assist in the recruitment, selection, training, supervision, and evaluation of assigned staff and volunteers. Assist in the preparation and maintenance of reports and records regarding participants, programs, and services. Ensure accurate accounting for camper attendance. Accompany campers on field trips. May transport campers and supplies via a park district vehicle. Assist in the purchase, distribution, and maintenance of proper inventory of all supplies and materials. Establish cooperative working relationship with coworkers, parents, community agencies and organizations. Attend pertinent departmental/park district meetings and in-house training sessions. Conduct self in accordance with the policies and procedures as established by the park district. Participate in park district safety and training program to ensure that work performed and services provided are implemented in a safe manner.

Requirements

  • Age: 18 years of age required, 21 years of age preferred for driving and transporting participants.
  • Education: High School diploma. Some college preferred.
  • Experience working with youth.
  • Experience supervising groups of youth in a recreational setting.
  • General knowledge of recreation, parks and leisure service field.
  • Specific knowledge of day camp programs and services.
  • Specific knowledge of developmentally appropriate activities for youth in a recreational environment.
  • Ability to implement sound techniques for managing recreation programs and services in assigned area of responsibility.
  • Ability to operate vehicles and equipment necessary to perform job assignments.
  • Ability to work weekends and holidays as assigned and to make timely and effective decisions.
  • Valid driver's license required for programs including transportation, otherwise preferred.
  • First Aid/CPR/AED certification.
  • Provide proof of date of birth.
  • Provide a copy of driver's license or photo identification
  • Provide drivers abstract if position duties require driving.
  • Submit to a reference check / employment verification.
  • Submit to a state criminal background check.
  • Submit to pre-placement physical and drug screening if position will involve transportation of participants.
  • Submit to random, reasonable cause, and post-accident alcohol and drug tests.
