About The Position

Provide direct leadership and supervision to youth. Assist in the planning, organization, implementation, and oversight of daily schedule of activities for youth in both indoor and outdoor day camp recreational settings.

Requirements

  • Age: 16 years and older.
  • Education: Junior in high school or higher grade level.
  • Experience: Working with youth.
  • Knowledge: General knowledge of recreation, parks, and leisure service field.
  • General knowledge of day camp and after-school programs and services.
  • General knowledge of developmentally appropriate activities for youth in a recreational environment.
  • Ability to operate vehicles and equipment necessary to perform job assignment.
  • License / Certification: Valid driver’s license required for programs including transportation, preferred if not including transportation.
  • First Aid/CPR/AED certification required within one (1) year.
  • Provide proof of date of birth.
  • Provide a copy of driver's license or photo identification.
  • Provide driver's abstract if position duties require driving.
  • Submit to a reference check and employment verification.
  • Submit to a state criminal background check.
  • Submit to a pre-placement physical and drug screening if position will involve transportation of participants.
  • Submit to reasonable cause and post-accident alcohol and drug testing.

Nice To Haves

  • High school diploma preferred.
  • Some college desired.
  • Supervision of groups of youth in a recreational setting preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct leadership and supervision to assigned day camp programs and services.
  • Provide developmentally appropriate activities that meet the needs and interests of the participants.
  • Implement camp activities in program setting according to established schedule.
  • Accompany campers on field trips.
  • May transport campers and supplies using a park district vehicle.
  • Participate with campers in scheduled daily activities.
  • Maintain day camp areas in a clean, organized, and neat manner.
  • Establish cooperative working relationships with co-workers and parents.
  • Attend pertinent departmental/park district meetings and in-house training sessions.
  • Conduct self in accordance with the policies and procedures as established by the park district.
  • Participate in park district safety and training program to ensure that work performed and serviced provided are implemented in a safe manner.
