About The Position

POSITION SUMMARY: The Afterschool Site Coordinator oversees the daily operations of the assigned afterschool site in partnership with the collaborating school and serves as the primary YMCA contact for school staff and families. This role provides leadership, implements curriculum, ensures a safe and high-quality program experience, and models the YMCA’s core values of honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring. Requirements

  • Two years of college coursework preferred, working toward a degree in Education or a related field.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience working with children in a developmental or educational setting preferred.
  • CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications required within 30 days of hire.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and implement age-appropriate and developmentally appropriate program activities.
  • Experience working with diverse populations and the ability to build positive, authentic relationships with children, families, and staff from varied backgrounds.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • CPR & First Aid – Must be able to complete and maintain certification in CPR and First Aid; able to assist individuals in need until professional help arrives.
  • Emergency Response – Ability to quickly identify emergency situations (medical, fire, environmental, etc.) and respond appropriately following established procedures.
  • Incident Management – Required to report all safety incidents and hazards immediately and accurately to supervisors.
  • Safe Environment – Commitment to maintaining a safe, clean, and hazard-free environment for all staff, members, and participants.
  • Physical Readiness – Must be able to perform physical tasks related to safety, including assisting individuals of various ages and physical abilities.
  • Compliance – Follow all YMCA safety protocols, OSHA standards, and state/local regulations as applicable.

Responsibilities

  • Designs and implements daily lesson/activity plans.
  • Supervises the children, classroom, and all activities.
  • Makes ongoing, systematic observations and evaluations of each child.
  • Ensures parents are kept informed of all site and program activities and communicates both positive and negative behavior of children to parents.
  • Conducts parent conferences and maintains positive relationships and effective communication with parents. Engages parents as volunteers.
  • Maintains program site and equipment.
  • Maintains required program records including attendance sheets, incident sheets, and behavior reports; maintains SFSP records.
  • Attends and participates in program activities, staff meetings, and staff training.
  • Follows and implements the Healthy Eating and Physical Activity standards.
  • Trains new staff on current YMCA policies and procedures.
  • Supervises summer camp counselors; modify the schedule as necessary to maintain appropriate staff to student ratios and remain within budget.
  • Develop relationships community stakeholders to further deepen the YMCA and community relationship.
  • Perform all other tasks as assigned by the Regional Youth Services & Athletic Director.
