About The Position

The Event Coordinator for the Red Room at Café 939 is a job for students interested in learning the inner-workings of a commercial 200 capacity all-ages venue on the campus of Berklee College of Music. Event Coordinators will work alongside industry professionals developing skills in talent buying, researching music and trends, venue management and presenting artists for both ticketed and non-ticketed shows. The Red Room is an entrepreneurial environment that requires a student to have a working knowledge of the music industry and to be able to carry out duties in a timely and efficient manner. The job requires daytime office hours and night commitments.

Requirements

  • Current student at Berklee College of Music or Boston Conservatory at Berklee.
  • Enrolled at least half-time in a degree, diploma, or certificate-seeking undergraduate or graduate program.
  • Summer is the only semester in which a student can maintain employment without being enrolled. In this case, the student must be pre-registered for the upcoming fall semester. This exception does not apply to fall or spring semesters.
  • Have a valid United States Social Security Number (SSN).
  • Remain in “valid” Visa status as applicable.
  • A minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA. Students in their first semester can work, even though they do not have an official GPA until the completion of their first semester.
  • Federal Work Study student may apply.
  • In good disciplinary standing.
  • Must be located in the U.S.
  • Knowledge of current music trends and performers required.
  • In-depth knowledge of multiple music genres is a MUST.
  • Patience, tact, and ability to handle stressful situations required with multiple entities attached.
  • Exuberance and respect for the industry and the confidence to talk to industry experts.
  • Punctuality, attention to detail, and organizational skills are required.
  • Attending a weekly staff meeting is mandatory.
  • Must have working knowledge of contracts/riders.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills including speaking effectively and assuredly on behalf of the college and the venue.
  • Discretion and confidentiality are required given the sensitivity and nature of the job.
  • Must be available to work days, nights, weekends, & some holidays.

  • if student has worked in the music industry (paid or intern) or is an active member of a Berklee College of Music music industry club or organization.
  • Wittiness and a good sense of humor are a plus.
  • Preference will be given to those who can commit to working through the summer semesters.

Responsibilities

  • Work within assigned “territory” to book bills and packages that make sense for The Red Room.
  • The Event Coordinator develops relationships with agents, managers and artists (Berklee, local and national).
  • Identify and research music trends, playlists, music publications, websites and performers in order to make educated suggestions for programming at the venue.
  • Consulting Pollstar Pro to gain a sense of a “fair market” pricing while learning the names, roles and rosters of leading industry professionals and their respective companies.
  • Negotiate deals with the counsel of the management that reflect the venue’s budgetary constraints as well as the “fair market price” of a performer or band.
  • Execute contracts and riders for performing artists.
  • Learn the legalese attached to contracts and riders.
  • Under the supervision of the Red Room Venue Manager and Event Manager, the Event Coordinator will send in offer sheets, determine ticket pricing and room set-up to maximize the success of the event.
  • Coordinate “night of show” information with the Venue Manager, artists/managers (contracts/riders/show folders/hospitality/merchandising)
  • The Event Coordinator should be available to attend the shows as a “promoter representative” and act as the point person for advancing the shows. This will require some night shifts and weekends.
  • Event Coordinator will assume the role of “Usher” when scheduled for both ticketed and non-ticketed events. This includes monitoring patrons as well as accounting for attendance figures, capacity and ticket scanning.
