This position supports public health by helping ensure safe, potable drinking water. Duties include monitoring and sampling public water systems, conducting basic laboratory testing and sample preparation, maintaining accurate records, and performing related administrative tasks. The incumbent provides accurate and efficient services while ensuring compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:
  • Six months experience in conducting field work to collect environmental or ecological samples and survey data.
  • Six months experience in analyzing and evaluating data.
  • Six months experience in math such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percentages, or decimals.
  • Six months experience in interpreting laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Six months experience in narrative report writing.
  • Six months experience in using an automated information system to enter, update, modify, delete, retrieve/inquire and report on data.
  • Possession of a valid Driver's License (not suspended, revoked or cancelled, or disqualified from driving).

Responsibilities

  • Provides technical support in studies, surveys, inspections and research projects.
  • Collects field samples and data.
  • Provides technical information and assistance to the public and the regulated community.
  • Interprets rules and regulations for assigned area.
  • Reviews permit applications and supplemental paperwork for approval or recommendation for disapproval.
  • Operates and maintains vehicles, boats and sampling equipment.
  • Maintains accurate records and prepares reports.
  • May assist in processing biological samples.
