About The Position

Buyer Curtiss-Wright’s Fleet Solutions Division is searching for Buyer, Staff to be based in Chesapeake, VA. Fleet Solutions and its predecessor companies have been a leading supplier of compressors, pumps and various other components which meet the demanding requirements of the U.S. Navy’s surface and submerged fleet. In addition, Fleet Solutions also provides a wide variety of spare and replacement parts, composite compressor and pump components, and support services for complete overhaul, upgrade and in-field expertise. The successful candidate will play a key role in the Fleet Solutions Sourcing organization by procuring a wide range of components to include some highly technical complex and/or high value materials, supplies or services. Curtiss-Wright Fleet Solutions is comprised of three service centers that focus on the US Navy fleet support and maintenance market. The Fleet Solutions group provides turnkey overhaul / repair, testing, and parts sales for air compressors, main propulsion steam turbines, valves, steam turbine generators, auxiliary turbines, dehydrators, pumps, strainers, PLCs, blowers, and water purification.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Supply Chain, Business Administration, Finance or Engineering preferred
  • 3-5 years of related Sourcing experience, preferably in commodities with rigorous quality requirements
  • Candidates with strong sourcing experience greater than 7 years will be considered in lieu of Bachelor’s Degree
  • Experience with Oracle ERP System or similar
  • Detail and results oriented
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills
  • Excellent written and verbal skills with suppliers and customers (internal and external) and the ability to build relationships
  • Ability to take initiative
  • Must be a US Citizen and able to obtain DoD security clearance

Nice To Haves

  • CPSM, CSCP, APICS and Six Sigma certification is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate bids, select and recommend suppliers
  • Negotiate price, delivery, service and Terms and Conditions
  • Read/understand Purchase Orders and Terms and Conditions
  • Read/understand published pricing indices and learning curves
  • Manage supplier performance and follow up on all awards until completion of orders
  • Negotiate and settle damage claims, rejections, returns of materials, over-shipments, cancellations and engineering changes
  • Lead supplier visits and teleconferences
  • Grow and maintain an active bid-list for assigned commodities
  • Achieve general understanding of technical requirements for the products sourced
  • Work closely with Production and Program Management Office to maintain project schedules
  • Comply with corporate policies, procedures and underlying Federal, State and or Local regulations concerning the purchase or shipments of goods, materials and services
  • Report supplier performance to management as needed
  • Assist Business Development Department / Contracts with supplier proposals
  • Develop trusted relationships with Suppliers/Customers/Auditors
  • Support supply-chain risk mitigation measures
  • Support Kaizen – Problem-Solving initiatives
