About The Position

The Business Strategist is responsible for developing executive-level plans, presentations and reports that communicate complex ideas and data in a clear and concise manner. The Strategist will play a key role in supporting the development and execution of strategic plans for Ilitch Sports & Entertainment – including the Detroit Tigers (MLB), Detroit Red Wings (NHL), and Olympia Development Parking (“ODMP”). Reporting to the Director of Strategic Initiatives , this position will collaborate cross-functionally with senior leadership and department leaders to coordinate and facilitate strategic planning sessions, identify strategic opportunities, establish priorities, and develop action plans to achieve organizational goals.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Finance, or related field.
  • 2+ years of experience in management consulting, investment banking, strategic planning, or related field; sports & entertainment industry preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and senior leadership.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex information in a clear and concise manner.
  • Exceptional project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret data and develop actionable insights.

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic support to Executive Leadership across IS+E, including creating executive-level project plans and presentations, building financial models, and developing reports that clearly communicate complex ideas and recommendations.
  • Support the development and execution of strategic plans and key initiatives – including the identification of key performance indicators, monitoring progress, and adjusting plans as needed.
  • Provide guidance and support to business units and functional areas to ensure alignment with organizational goals and objectives.
  • Collaborate with finance, department leaders, and stakeholders on budget execution in accordance with the strategic planning process.
  • Support the coordination and facilitation of strategic planning sessions – ensuring effective communication, collaboration, and performance.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather information, analyze data, and develop insights that inform presentation content.
  • Develop compelling visual aids, including charts, graphs, tables, and infographics, to enhance the clarity and impact of presentation content.
  • Work collaboratively with senior leadership and cross-functional teams to identify emerging trends, opportunities, and risks, and develop action plans.
  • Conduct benchmarking, research, and market analysis to support the development of strategic plans and key initiatives.
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize tasks, and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Monitor program milestones, deliverables, budget, and objectives – raising risks and issues appropriately.
  • Support monthly Business Unit Reviews and collaborate with key decision makers to develop executive reporting materials.
