About The Position

NextStep is a digital, AI-first career platform built to help high-performing consultants make their next move. We use data-driven matching to connect consulting talent with great opportunities, while helping companies find exceptional people. We're hiring a Business Planning Manager in New York for a PE-backed growth strategy firm in our partner network. As a Business Planning Manager, you'll drive the strategic planning process and shape where the business goes next. Your day-to-day will include:

Requirements

  • Consulting background - MBB, Big 4, or top-tier boutique experience (strategy, operations, or transformation)
  • 4-7 years in strategic planning - Business planning, corporate strategy, financial planning & analysis, or strategic finance
  • Analytical depth - You can build complex models, spot patterns in data, and simplify the complicated
  • Executive communication skills - You can present to the C-suite, get buy-in from skeptical stakeholders, and write clearly
  • Technical fluency - Comfortable with Excel/Google Sheets, BI tools (Tableau, Looker, Power BI), and data analysis
  • Project leadership - Track record of managing strategic initiatives end-to-end
  • Adaptability - You thrive in hybrid environments and can context-switch between strategic thinking and execution
  • Results orientation - You care about outcomes, not just outputs

Responsibilities

  • Building planning infrastructure - Design business planning frameworks and processes that leadership actually uses (not just annual PowerPoint exercises)
  • Turning data into direction - Analyze market trends, competitive dynamics, and internal performance to surface strategic recommendations
  • Forecasting with Finance & Ops - Partner on building financial models and operational forecasts that hold up under scrutiny
  • Creating executive materials - Develop board decks, business reviews, and strategic presentations that drive decision-making
  • Tracking what matters - Monitor KPIs, identify performance gaps, and push for course corrections when needed
  • Leading cross-functional initiatives - Own strategic projects that span multiple departments
  • Facilitating strategic sessions - Run planning workshops and offsites with senior leadership
  • Delivering insights that stick - Surface findings that actually change how the business operates
