Business Continuity Planning Responsibilities Business Continuity Planning Specialist assists more senior level peers in day-to-day responsibilities for policies, standards, and business continuity plans that affect every business unit and employee. Incumbents perform basic supportive tasks/projects within their function and receive more hands-on supervision than their higher-level peers as they develop the internal knowledge and skills necessary to be successful. Business Continuity Planning I is an independent professional contributor responsible for delivering the essential work of the department by defining Business Continuity and Disaster Plans for business units to ensure that PGW can continue operations in adverse conditions. The incumbent oversees implementation and maintenance of assigned preset plans to ensure they are current and applicable to the department’s current operations. The Business Continuity Planner works on project teams to study, improve or redesign business processes and is accountable for the overall quality of the product, analysis and recommendations of the work teams focused on specific policies/procedures. Business Continuity Planning II coordinates the development of advanced arrangements and procedures to ensure the critical business and functional unit activities can be resumed within a defined and reasonable time frame in the case of a major emergency. The incumbent is responsible for policies, standards, and business continuity plans that affect every business unit and employee by performing quality assurance audits and effectively communicating results and recommendations to senior management.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in management information systems, Business Management, Business Continuity or other related field of study.
  • 1 to 3 years’ relevant work experience with emergency and/or facilities planning or other related work environment.
  • Must have knowledge of relevant equipment, policies, procedures, and strategies to promote effective local, state, or national security operations for the protection of people, data, property, and institutions.
  • Must have knowledge of general office practices within high-risk environments such as power, gas or nuclear plants.
  • Must have knowledge of testing concepts and principles from a technical and business perspective.
  • Must have project management skills with the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously and must be able to handle difficult and high stress situations with diplomacy.
  • Must be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office and data processing concepts.
  • Must have a valid Pennsylvania driver’s license and clean driving record.
  • An Equivalent combination of education and experience may be acceptable in lieu of degree.

Responsibilities

  • Develop Business Continuity and Disaster Plans for assigned business units that address normal and business continuity issues.
  • Ensure the proper application of the Business Continuity Planning Software in place at PGW within the National Incident Management System (NIMS) and the Incident Command System (ICS).
  • Ensure the creation of project plans that adhere to the established timelines, emergency response organization and procedures for reacting to and coordinating recovery efforts, Recovery support procedures for the continuation of critical business processes, training employees to ensure normal and business continuity compliance with plans and procedures, and Business resumption procedures for the continuation of critical business processes.
  • Provide leadership to business unit project teams in all aspects of plan development and maintenance; ensure the development of Process Maps that document established plans and procedures for achieving desired results.
  • Analyze, investigate, and audit plans to ensure they are current and reflect current business unit’s practices, and any regulatory requirements.
  • Select, maintain, and update software programs utilized in plan development and act as software program Administrator for the Emergency Notification Software System utilized by PGW.
  • Develop and conduct simulation exercises to stress- test and evaluate plan efficiency and effectiveness; conduct analysis of data and develop reports and recommendations to identify training and procedural needs.
  • Assist the Business Continuity Planning Project Manager with a variety of functions including but not limited to: Develop, audit and implement event specific response plans, policies and procedures to address both normal and business continuity issues: ensure plans are specific to individual department needs and coordinated with intra-related departments.
  • Develop simulated test plans and supporting procedure exercises to ensure compliance within and across departments.
  • Development of After-Action Reports at the conclusion of actual events, drills and exercises.
  • Audit procedures and training to ensure completeness and viability in satisfying the planning modules; analyze audit results and provides feedback on adequacy of plans and training effectiveness.
  • Work with Business Continuity Leaders and division financial community to ensure the development of a solid plan focused on critical financial drivers and operating conditions.
  • Conduct Business Impact Analysis (BIA) for selected work groups assessing workgroup resource requirements, evaluatingvulnerabilities, identifying recovery options and developing alternatives to ensure that business recovery plans are complete.
  • Develop, recommend and implement continuity plans, policies, and operating procedures for replacement of damaged property due catastrophic losses; assists in the evaluation, design and implementation of catastrophe processes and systems.
  • Perform other special projects and assignments as requested.
