About The Position

The Business Manager is an executive-level position within Student Media. This position will oversee all budgetary functions within Student Media and mange the office in consultation with the director of Student Media and the senior administrative assistant in the department of mass media. Requirements

  • All employees of Student Media must be enrolled as Washburn or Washburn Tech students. Executive-level positions require students to be enrolled as full-time students.
  • Student Media accepts applications from students in all majors and will provide additional training.

Responsibilities

  • Approve all purchases, draft and sign all requisitions for supplies, equipment, repairs and any other purchases appropriate within the scope of the responsibilities of the business manager.
  • Work with director and/or senior administrative assistant in mass media to prepare financial transactions
  • Maintain complete financial records for Student Media
  • Update the Board of Student Media on the financial conditions of Student Media at meetings, or as deemed necessary by the Board of Student Media.
  • Maintain and perform payroll functions for Student Media staff members.
  • Provide the Purchasing Office, Business Office and any other necessary departments with all forms and information needed to complete financial responsibilities.
  • Make sure that accounts receivable are collected and stay in contact with the advertising manager to maintain records.
  • Ensure all units of the Student Media stay within pre-established budgetary constraints.
  • Prepare a complete budget for Student Media in consultation with the executive-level leaders and the director for the fiscal year following the current fiscal year for presentation to the Board of Student Media.
  • Verify deposits in Banner for advertising deposits, department transfers and yearbook sales.
  • Review monthly budget updates in a budget query for any strange/unusual charges or deposits.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Board of Student Media.
