The Business Development Training Director is responsible for designing, implementing, and overseeing a comprehensive, enterprise-wide training and development strategy for business development across Odyssey Behavioral Healthcare. This role partners closely with executive leadership, business development leadership, human resources and operational stakeholders to assess training needs, establish scalable learning frameworks, and deliver high-impact training initiatives that strengthen the business development teams effectiveness, consistency, and performance. This position ensures training programs are responsive to market dynamics, aligned with organizational priorities, and grounded in measurable outcomes. The Business Development Training Director drives skill development, onboarding, continuous learning, and leadership readiness to support achievement of performance targets, and sustained company growth. Initiates and maintains frequent and close working relationships with vendors, clinical providers, and referral partners. Promotes and supports national education and other high-level growth initiatives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Health Administration, or a related field required.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of progressive experience in direct business development and/or sales required, with additional experience in behavioral health treatment services strongly preferred.
  • Sales Training Strategy & Design: Demonstrates expertise in developing scalable, role-based sales training programs that align with organizational goals, market dynamics, and growth strategies.
  • Needs Assessment & Performance Gap Analysis: Demonstrates the ability to assess individual, team, and organizational performance to identify skill gaps and translate insights into targeted learning solutions.
  • Curriculum Development & Instructional Design: Demonstrates proficiency in creating engaging curricula, including onboarding, advanced sales skills, leadership development, and continuous learning pathways.
  • Facilitation & Program Delivery: Demonstrates strong facilitation skills across live, virtual, and blended learning environments; able to influence and engage sales professionals at all levels.
  • Sales Effectiveness & Enablement: Demonstrates an expert understanding of sales methodologies, pipeline management, messaging, and execution to improve conversion, productivity, and consistency.
  • Change Management & Adoption: Proven ability to drive adoption of new tools, processes, and behaviors through structured change management and reinforcement strategies.
  • Data-Driven Measurement & ROI: Demonstrated experience in defining KPIs, measuring training effectiveness, and linking learning initiatives to sales performance, growth metrics, and business outcomes.
  • Coaching & Leadership Development: Proven success in developing front-line and mid-level sales leaders through coaching frameworks, feedback models, and leadership readiness programs.
  • Technology & Learning Platforms: Demonstrates proficiency in leveraging Salesforce, Excel, Power Point, Word and other digital training and development tools to scale, track, and optimize training initiatives.
  • Strategic Communication & Influence: Demonstrates a strong executive presence with the ability to communicate clearly, align stakeholders, and influence adoption across a national organization.

Responsibilities

  • Onboarding and New Hire Training: Develops and implements an onboarding program for new hires to ensure a smooth transition and accelerate their ramp-up time. Delivers training on clinical program differentiators, sales processes, and company values to help new hires become productive members of the sales team quickly.
  • Training Needs Analysis: Conducts thorough assessments to identify skill gaps and training requirements within the sales team. Develops and leverages assessment tools and documentation processes in partnership with leadership and human resources.
  • Training Strategy Development: Develops a strategic training plan that supports the organization's sales objectives and addresses identified training needs. Develops a roadmap for the design, implementation, and evaluation of business development training programs. Collaborates with AVPs and senior leadership to understand sales goals, challenges, and opportunities to align training protocols accordingly.
  • Design and Implementation: Designs, develops and implements business development training programs and materials, incorporating sales methodologies, program knowledge, sales techniques, objection handling, and customer relationship management skills. Utilizes a variety of instructional techniques and delivery methods such as role-playing, e-learning, and on-the-job training.
  • Training Delivery: Oversees the delivery of sales training for new hires and underperformers. Ensure training sessions are engaging, interactive, and effective in transferring knowledge and skills to the sales team. Monitor and evaluate the quality of training delivery, making improvements as needed.
  • Coaching and Mentorship: Develops coaching and mentorship programs to support ongoing skill development and performance improvement of business development representatives. Provides guidance and insight to leadership on effective coaching techniques and tools to reinforce training concepts and drive continuous learning.
  • Sales Performance and Training Evaluation: Develops and implements processes to measure the effectiveness of sales training programs and collect feedback from participants and leaders. Analyzes sales performance data to identify areas of improvement and recommend training interventions to enhance results.
  • Sales Enablement Content Development: Collaborates with marketing and business development leadership to develop collateral and training resources. Ensures these resources align with the training curriculum and support business development training needs at different stages of the sales cycle.
  • Attends scheduled virtual, in-person, and internal and external business development and facility meetings.
  • Collaborates with executive leadership to formulate goals/objectives for admissions teams at each location.
  • Maximizes available resources to meet or exceed strategic growth goals.
