About The Position

The Business Development Representative (BDR) is responsible for expanding the reach of Rainbow Community Care’s hospice, palliative, and guided care services. Following the Rainbow Business Development Playbook, this role focuses on strategic community engagement and education-based outreach. The BDR acts as a bridge between our clinical teams and care partners working in assisted living facilities, nursing homes, hospitals, and clinics to increase the probability that patients and families receive the right care at the right time. Requirements

  • Exceptional storytelling and public speaking skills; ability to discuss “taboo” subjects (death and dying) with empathy and professionalism.
  • Builds trust, credibility, and strong teams through demonstrable actions, ethical choices, and behaviors.
  • Ability to interpret healthcare metrics and hospice utilization data to drive strategy and tactical execution.
  • Strong existing ties to the Dodge and Jefferson County healthcare community.
  • Understands the hospice philosophy, referral processes, advance directives, and challenges faced by patients, families, and healthcare professionals.
  • Skilled at using Customer Relationship Management (CRM) tools to build an archival record of referral source contacts; Microsoft Office suite.
  • Dedicated to spending 75-80% of time traveling to referral source locations within the service area.
  • Valid Wisconsin driver’s license and proof of current car insurance are required upon hire and must be maintained throughout employment.
  • Must be able to maintain healthy boundaries and positive interpersonal relationships.
  • Must be tactful and courteous in communication with others, whether in-person, by phone, or in writing.
  • Must act with integrity and demonstrate good work ethics including reliable attendance and punctuality.
  • 2-5+ years of experience in healthcare sales or business development, ideally in hospice, home health, or post-acute care, focusing on relationship building, education, and driving referrals with strong communication skills and understanding of patient needs.

Responsibilities

  • Calls on decision makers and influencers working in assisted living facilities, nursing homes, hospitals, and clinics; gets to know them, builds deep trust, brings value, and solves problems.
  • Builds the depth and breadth of the market’s understanding of what it means to live well as we grow old and become seriously ill by facilitating educational programs and attending community events that target healthcare professionals and end-consumers.
  • Uses educational tools to normalize end-of-life communication and preparation.
  • Increases the number of patients referred to Rainbow Community Care, and the amount of time they spend on service.
  • Builds loyalty to Rainbow Community Care among referral sources and the general public.
  • Utilizes real-time market intelligence and data analytics to guide outreach actions and decisions, moving beyond intuition to make fact-based choices that align with broader strategy, ensuring the Business Development team is focused on measurable goals, understands customer needs, and adjusts quickly for improved efficiency and results.
  • Partners with patient care teams and clinical leadership to ensure a seamless referral-to-admission process.
  • Works closely with the Director of Business Development, RN Clinical Facility Liaison, and Marketing Communications Manager to implement the strategies and tactics that lead to achievement of departmental goals.
  • Shares anecdotes that inspire healthcare professionals to play a more active role in managing the needs of patients and families; contributes to strategic communication campaigns and projects that humanize the experience of aging, illness, and loss.
