As a Business Development Manager - Specifications, you will play a key role in expanding Potter Fire Safety’s presence within architect, engineering, and end-user specifications across the U.S. Working closely with industry partners, you’ll help position Potter Fire Safety’s fire alarm, fire sprinkler, emergency communications, security solutions, and related software and services in project specifications. By building strong relationships and influencing specifications early in the design process, you’ll enable our partners to unlock new growth opportunities and bring trusted, innovative fire safety solutions to more projects nationwide.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
  • A minimum of 15 years of direct fire alarm or related industry sales or technical experience.
  • Ability to travel up to 75% of the time. Occasionally non-standard work hours are required for meetings and other industry events.
  • Able to understand and effectively communicate technical information to channel stakeholders including sales, management, installation, service, engineering staff as well as to local fire officials.
  • Strong software skills MS Office, Salesforce, and Potter developed software products.
  • Valid Driver’s License and Reliable Transportation to travel for business needs.
  • Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality.
  • Excellent verbal, written and presentation communication skills.
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the maintenance of Potter Fire Safety’s master specification for Consulting Engineers and End Users, including incorporating updates for new product launches throughout the year.
  • Deliver compelling sales presentations to customers, influences, and other stakeholders to drive the preference of Potter Fire Safety in both product & project specifications
  • Manage existing end-user national accounts to ensure their specifications for Potter Fire Safety remain up to date with the latest new product offerings.
  • Work with the customers to understand where they may have challenges that Potter Fire Safety can address with our products and services.
  • Where relevant, collaborate with other Potter Global Technologies business units to expand our offerings to national account customers.
  • Ensure the Sales and Marketing teams have the most current project / product specifications and updates to utilize in their specific geographic territories.
  • Actively participate in the national, regional and local fire service industry events / associations including, but not limited to NFPA, AFAA, SFPE, NIFAD, FSSA to maintain Potter’s leadership position as a thought leader in the fire & life safety industry.
  • Utilize available market, project and product data to determine where opportunities exist to increase Potter Fire Safety’s presence in project specifications.
  • Using consultative selling skills, further develop existing relationships with stakeholders to maintain the relevance of Potter’s products in existing specifications, including but not limited to updating existing specifications to include new product / service offerings.
  • Provide voice of the customer (VOC) feedback to the sales, marketing and leadership teams based on knowledge gained from customer presentations, customer needs, industry trends and codes / regulations.
  • Represent company at trade association meetings/shows to promote products and services.
  • Manage core travel and entertainment budget on a weekly, monthly, and yearly schedule.
  • Take on additional responsibilities as needed to support team goals and project milestones.
