Summary: A Bull-ganger sets up and uses oxy-fuel or plasma burning equipment to cut or trim plate and structural steel.  Use oxygen/acetylene torch for cutting metals or to gouge.  Operates electric and pneumatic power tools such as grinders, wire brushes, and chipping guns.  Performs basic and preventative maintenance functions on power equipment.  Uses grinders and other hand or power tools required to grind, bevel, or fit metals together, and remove slag.  Use of hand tools such as shovels, brooms, scrapers, brushes, files, etc. Maintain work area and equipment in a clean orderly condition and follow prescribed safety procedures. Unload fabricated steel products and tools from trucks.

Requirements

  • Three (3) years minimum heavy industrial field experience as a Millwright as well as experience as an Ironworker
  • Ability to identify all techniques of both a millwright and ironworker
  • Must be able to successfully complete all required pre-hire requirements.
  • Completion of Safety related certifications such as OSHA 10 or Safety council programs as required by company and/or client.

Responsibilities

  • Work safely around the hazards associated with the construction field.
  • Use hand, electric, pneumatic and hydraulic tools and in a safe manner.
  • Construction Math -Demonstrates a level of competency in construction math as required in trade practice, including fractions, decimals, geometry, use of formulae, and trigonometry.
  • Blueprint Reading – Correctly reads and understands plans, isometrics, arrangement drawings, details, specifications, erection manuals and/or blue prints and makes competent decisions based on measurable criteria.
  • Secure components together applying knowledge of geometry, physical properties of metal machining, weld shrinkage, and welding techniques.
  • Bolt, clamp and tack weld parts to secure in position for welding.
  • Prepare material for welding by cutting or grinding using pipe cutters, hammer and chisel, cutting torch, and/or grinder.
  • Set material in stands, racks ,hoists etc. for welding
  • Set up equipment and weld parts using arc, gas shielded arc, gas shielded arc, or gas welding equipment.
  • Work within precise limits and standards of accuracy.
