We are seeking a Building Science Specialist to join the Technical team. This position is entirely on-site and can be based at our Chicago, IL or Milton, ON offices. What you will be doing: The role of the Building Science Specialist is to provide architects, designers, specifiers and contractors the expertise, tools and services in building science to unlock the energy saving potential, increase the durability and the resiliency of their buildings, without compromising their designs. Provide the relevant technical support in building science to external and ROCKWOOL internal customers, including but not limited to architects, building envelop consultants, contractors, specifiers, and the ROCKWOOL sales and specification teams; this support focuses mainly on the thermal, hygrothermal and acoustical performance of components of the building enclosure. Engage and manage third party consultants, when applicable, to support building science related projects. Provide direction and oversight to parties retained in these respects. Support the development of a fundamental understanding of building science within the ROCKWOOL organization. Develop Internal and External training programs, including Continuing education unit (CEU) development. Evaluate the impact of the ROCKWOOL Building Science services on the overall ROCKWOOL sales, using ROCKWOOL internal tools. Develop processes and tools to maintain awareness of emerging building science related trends, issues and requirements, and assess potential strategic implications and opportunities for ROCKWOOL. Develop processes to monitor competitor performance, and ensure best practices are integrated and adopted to maintain industry-leading performance. Leverage the expertise of the ROCKWOOL group network, when relevant. Develop and maintain effective relationships with a range of external counterparties, including industry counterparts, associations and universities. Provide input on near and long-term strategies, as well as operational planning of the activities, to demonstrate commitment and leadership with respect to building science.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in architectural sciences (Building Sciences), Civil Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering.
  • 2+ years of relevant working experience, in the fields of curtainwalls, building materials or more generally in the construction industry
  • Previous experience in project management including planning, research, and time, task and cost control
  • Knowledge in WUFI, THERM, INSUL and HEAT 3 modelling software
  • NFRC Certified Simulator
  • Ability to effectively build relationships with internal colleagues, customers, external stakeholders including government and key influencers
  • Effective written communication and presentation skills and ability to develop tailored materials and messages for a range of audiences.
  • Able to design and execute work with minimal supervision, demonstrated through project management, relationship management, or equivalent.
  • Solid time management skills, with ability to track, manage, and meet deadlines for multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to travel internationally (US and Canada)

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge and experience in whole building modeling is an asset
  • Bilingual French/English or Spanish/English is an asset
  • Building Science Specialist, EIT or P.Eng / PE designation is an asset
