About The Position

The Project Accountant is responsible for managing project invoicing and payments, comparing budgets to job costs, reviewing daily job cost items, preparing subcontracts and purchase orders with compliance tracking, and handling change orders. A successful candidate should possess relevant accounting experience, strong computer skills, excellent communication skills and a proactive attitude with a willingness to learn.

Requirements

  • Prior accounting or related experience is preferred; preferably in the construction industry.
  • Computer and software skills, including Microsoft Office required, Vista/Viewpoint preferred.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational and project management skills.
  • Strong organization, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work with all personnel within the organization and facilitate communication effectively.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to be a team player, flexible, and able to work in fast paced and changing environment.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the project management team to prepare and distribute subcontracts and purchase orders, ensuring all required compliance documents are included.
  • Monitor compliance for all subcontractors and material suppliers.
  • Assist with monthly and annual financial closeout processes.
  • Process weekly certified payroll reports for prevailing wage projects; collect and manage payrolls from subcontractor on prevailing wage projects.
  • Partner with the Building Accounting Manager as well as Corporate Finance to manage insurance and bonding requirements.
  • Review material tickets from the field for accurate coding.
  • Oversee daily review of unapproved AP invoices; code or route them to the project management team as needed.
  • Prepare owner and subcontractor change orders.
  • Manage monthly project billings and communicate effectively with Project.
  • Load weekly payment to subcontractors as payments are received from owners.
  • Work with Project Managers to develop strategies for financial closing.
  • Generates and distributes job cost analysis and variance reports.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in software tools (Microsoft Office, Viewpoint, etc.) and accounting skills (formulas, calculations, etc.).
  • Communicate with general contractors, subcontractors, and vendors regarding invoicing and payment inquiries.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with owners, subcontractors, and vendors.
  • Adhere to all regulations, policies, and work procedures.
  • Provide direct support to project management teams to ensure projects are completed on time and within budget.
  • Offer accounting assistance to Project Managers and operations staff; address financial questions and concerns promptly.
  • Respond to all vendor inquiries.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
