BUILDING MAINTENANCE SPECIALIST
About The Position

The agency is seeking a qualified and reliable Building Maintenance Specialist to perform daily duties and tasks related to general facility maintenance, repair, and construction. This includes preventative maintenance, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, kitchen equipment repairs, and utility service system maintenance at the Arizona State Prison Complex - Tucson.
Requirements
- Knowledge of: Structural issues regarding building and utility service systems, including blueprints, safety practices, and codes
- Knowledge of: Trades, e.g., electrical, electronic, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, general facility maintenance, preventive maintenance, etc.
- Knowledge of: Budgeting to include estimating costs and ordering materials
- Knowledge of: Common and specialized tools and equipment for performing duties
- Knowledge of: Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) guidelines and national and local building codes/regulations
- Skill in: Reading of blueprints, schematics, and general construction
- Skill in: Mechanical devices, electrical, preventative maintenance
- Skill in: Using and demonstrating the use of common and specialized tools
- Skill in: Written and verbal communication
- Ability to: Lift/Carry up to 50lbs
- Ability to: Push/Pull up to 50lbs
- Ability to: Walk/Run up to 0.25 miles
- Ability to: Work in a prison environment
- Ability to: Supervise inmate work crews
Nice To Haves
- On-the-job training as a technical or generalized maintenance staff person
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- Education which includes technical training
- Specialized trade schools and unions
Responsibilities
- Schedules and plans maintenance-related projects to include pricing, material list, equipment and needs
- Performs maintenance and preventative maintenance tasks as required and scheduled
- Completes related documentation as required by policy and as directed by supervisor
- Basic knowledge of office equipment to include computers, internet research and completion of documents
- Inspects and maintains tools and equipment to ensure proper working order and all are accounted for
- Supervises and evaluates inmate worker’s performance
- Attends staff meetings and training as required
- Drives on State business
- Performs other duties appropriate to the assignment
