About The Position

This position is to assist the Building Activation Manager by helping to coordinate tasks involved in the commissioning and opening of new and renovated buildings at Charlotte Douglas International Airport. Work involves coordinating with engineering and architectural consultants, airline and concession tenants, aviation division staff, TSA staff, etc., in connection with the opening/commissioning of airport facilities. Work involves reviewing/understanding designs, plans, specifications, technical reports, and applications. Work involves some technical decision-making and independent judgment within established guidelines. Work is evaluated based on results.

Requirements

  • High School graduate or equivalent plus seven years of experience
  • 2 Year College Degree plus five years of experience
  • Bachelor's Level Degree plus three years of experience
  • Requires a valid driver’s license, with no more than six points, and the ability to obtain and maintain a City driving permit.
  • Certain criminal convictions will disqualify individuals from unescorted access privileges and, therefore, preclude them from employment.
  • Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of principles and concepts of construction administration.
  • Ability to manage the building activation process to ensure the timely completion of projects.
  • Ability to interpret contracts, bids/proposals, specifications, and other technical documents.
  • Experience with database management and project management software.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills (verbal and written communication skills)
  • Enthusiasm and willingness to participate and work effectively with co-workers, tenants, and contractors, representing the airport in a professional and positive manner.
  • Adapt to a dynamic environment where responsibilities or duties may shift to supporting other team members’ projects.
  • Ability to work safely and securely in public, restricted, and sterile areas with situational awareness.
  • Ability to produce technical reports.
  • Ability to successfully apply and direct change control principles to project design and implementation.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree plus three years of applicable work experience or an Associate’s degree plus five years of applicable work experience in architecture, engineering, construction, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education, credentials, and relevant work or military experience that provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the essential job duties.
  • Certified Associate in Project Management or Project Management Professional preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Reports to the ORAT Manager and ORAT Project Managers on all matters related to ORAT projects; provides assistance and support on complex projects and manages projects independently as the need arises to support the CLT ORAT team.
  • Collaborates with airport leadership, project team, airlines, vendors, tenants, and all other key airport stakeholders to plan ORAT activities and provide updates.
  • Assists in coordinating tasks on multiple construction projects, consultants, and contractors at Charlotte Douglas International Airport.
  • Plans, procures, and schedules FF&E for various projects, including soliciting contractor bids/proposals.
  • Manages vendor contracts for multiple ORAT vendors.
  • Tracks project schedules to coordinate ORAT activities, adjusting as the project schedule changes.
  • Coordinates and communicates with internal and external stakeholders for relocations and construction logistics impacts.
  • Monitors and reports on contract changes, monitors contractor performance, solicits contractor bids/proposals, monitors quality of design work, provides regular status reports, performs special studies, and responds to requests from other Aviation Divisions and the Building Activation Manager.
  • Interfaces with various governmental agencies to ensure departmental compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Ensures all components of new spaces have been fully tested and accepted.
  • Confirms that staff have been trained prior to Go-Live.
  • Helps implement scheduling decisions related to building openings based on the needs of all aviation partners.
  • Prepares clear and concise reports, schedules, and completes projects accurately and on schedule.
  • Interprets contracts, bids/proposals, specifications, and other technical documents.
  • Calculates cost estimates and identifies resources needed for projects.
  • Reviews the work of architects, engineers, and other project service providers.
  • Makes project recommendations as necessary to support airline tenant operations.
  • Provides assistance to project managers, contract officers, and others during various phases of project design and construction to ensure facilities/buildings open and operate as needed.
