About The Position

The Sol Price School of Public Policy is looking for a Budget/Business Analyst to join their team. This role is crucial within the Business Office, an administrative unit of the Price School, and supports various departments by assisting with business processes such as expenditure management, budgeting, and procurement. Key components include maintaining financial reports, monthly reconciliation, and serving as a liaison between the School, USC Business Services, and outside vendors. The position is currently a remote work arrangement, subject to change, with occasional campus visits for meetings or events. The mission of the Price School is to improve the quality of life for people and their communities worldwide through education and research that promote innovative solutions to critical societal issues, focusing on governance, urban development, and social policy. The Price School offers various Ph.D., master's, executive master's, and undergraduate degrees. USC is a leading private research university in Los Angeles, a global center for arts, technology and international business, and the largest private employer in the city.

Requirements

  • Budget experience including knowledge of government and fund accounting.
  • Strong computer skills with use of automated spreadsheets.
  • Bachelor's degree (or combined experience/education as substitute for minimum education).
  • 1 year of experience.
  • Business administration, accounting or related degree.

Responsibilities

  • Administers assigned budgets.
  • Monitors actual income and expense and develops projections to authorize or extend financial commitments.
  • Prepare and submit accounting documents for processing including Purchase Orders and Internal Requisitions.
  • Determine appropriate fund allocations and secure proper approvals.
  • Reconciles account balances and activity to university financial records and initiates correcting entries.
  • Prepares monthly budget versus actual reports and reviews for accuracy before distribution.
  • Assist with month-end and year-end closing.
  • Troubleshoots problems, including research of pertinent facts and interacts with appropriate university staff to achieve resolution.
  • Provides information to staff and faculty regarding university financial policies and procedures.
  • Assists faculty and staff in financial transactions such as purchasing equipment and supplies and expense reimbursements.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
