About The Position

Global Broadcast Engineering provides technological infrastructure and operational support to for the company's global linear playout platform to ensure our global audiences can enjoy Warner Bros. Discovery's programming around the world and across platforms. Warner Bros. Discovery is a leading global media and entertainment company and is available in more than 220 countries & territories and 50 languages. Global Broadcast Engineering is building technology and systems that meet world class standards for which Warner Bros. Discovery is known. We provide 24/7 support for the Global Broadcast Operations team and fulfill business needs through constant innovation. We have personnel in Sterling, VA, Atlanta, GA and London, UK. The role is a leading member of the Global Broadcast Engineering team. This position will execute all aspects of infrastructure engineering and live on-air events. This person will ensure proper state of all playout infrastructure, coordinate regular maintenance, and perform necessary upgrades. This person will work jointly with Broadcast Engineering, Broadcast Operations, and network clients to realize all the requirements of each event. Must be able to balance technical requirements with creative desires and provide a solid and comprehensive production plan.

Requirements

  • BA/BS in IT, Engineering or similar technical degree or equivalent TV & Media industry experience.
  • Understanding of video and audio signals and standards.
  • Strong skills with network protocols, standards, and policies.
  • Basic understanding of AWS architectures and methodologies.
  • Strong work ethic and positive attitude with ability to lead and handle high volume projects.
  • Superior organizational skills with a high degree of flexibility, attention to detail, and ability to respond to changing priorities, timelines, and deadlines.
  • Self-learner, independent, with outstanding problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage time effectively and prioritize effectively.
  • Ability to read and understand technical drawings.

Nice To Haves

  • IP Networking & Ethernet Connectivity: Strong understanding of TCP/IP, UDP, RTP, VLANs, and multicast protocols.
  • IP Audio/Video Standards: Familiarity with both compressed and uncompressed formats, including H.264, H.265, NDI, and SMPTE ST 2110.
  • Transport Stream Protection: Experience with IP-based Audio/Video Networks and protocols such as RIST and SMPTE 2022-7 for reliable media transport.
  • Large-Scale IP Video & Control Systems: Experience in designing, deploying, and maintaining IP video and control systems for large-scale networks.
  • Data & Log Analysis: Proficiency with the ELK Stack (Elasticsearch, Logstash, Kibana) for system monitoring, data visualization, and troubleshooting.
  • Scripting & Automation: Strong skills in Python for automation, data processing, and workflow optimization.
  • Engineering Hardware & Software Support: Hands-on experience with the following vendors and product lines: Evertz: SDVN/Magnum, VUE/Reflex, NMS/Vistalink, Hardware Ateme: TITAN Live Sencore: VB330 & VBC TAG: MCM & MCS

Responsibilities

  • Alignment of technology roadmaps with different business units and technology teams.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively to complete requests in a timely manner.
  • Ability to perform well in a high-pressure environment and prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Must have strong leadership skills and the willingness to lead by example.
  • Work with a team of engineers and operators in a collaborative, team-oriented environment, coordinate regular maintenance & necessary upgrades, and address critical problems through to resolution.
  • Serve as primary interface for Global Broadcast Engineering with Operations & network clients on all live events.
  • Travel may be required.
  • Other job duties, responsibilities, and project assignments as necessary. Ability to work any shift schedule.
  • This position is considered an essential position. This means that during times of inclement weather, emergencies, or when access to the workplace may be impeded, that employees in this position are expected to report to work to support business continuance, unless otherwise instructed by his/her direct manager.
