About The Position

The Box Office Associate provides front-line customer service for ticket sales and patron support at the Fair Oaks Performing Arts Center. This role is responsible for accurately processing ticket transactions, assisting patrons with event information, and supporting smooth front-of-house operations during performances and events. Under the supervision of the Arts & Entertainment Manager or Box Office Supervisor, the Box Office Associate handles ticket sales, will-call, and patron inquiries while maintaining accurate records and a welcoming customer experience. This position requires strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work efficiently in a live event environment.

  • Experience supporting operations in a performing arts or live event setting, including ticket scanning, ushering, crowd management, and patron services.
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and/or six months of related customer service or event coordination experience.
  • Experience in live event operations or customer service, preferably in a performing arts or entertainment venue.
  • All applicants must be fingerprinted and pass a pre-employment background check.
  • Reliable transportation to and from work is required.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
  • Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's.
  • Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid California class C driver's license, proof of personal vehicle insurance, and a satisfactory driving record are required.
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Adobe Acrobat and the Microsoft Office Suite of products and possess typing skills of at least 40-50 wpm.
  • Knowledge of basic office equipment should include Internet and email, copy and fax machines, postage meter, telephone, and answering machine.
  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate assigned tools and equipment.
  • Bending at the waist, kneeling, or crouching.
  • Hearing and speaking to exchange information.
  • Sitting, standing, and walking for extended periods.
  • Seeing to perform assigned activities.
  • Regularly lift and/or move up to 20 pounds; lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling heavy objects up to 100 pounds with assistance.
  • Reaching overhead, above the shoulders, and horizontally.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with performance venue layouts, accessibility accommodations, and basic emergency procedures is preferred.
  • A background in theater, hospitality, or recreation is desirable.
  • Supervisory or volunteer coordination experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Sell tickets in person, by phone, and online using the Center’s ticketing system
  • Manage will-call, complimentary tickets, exchanges, and refunds in accordance with policy
  • Provide accurate information regarding performances, pricing, seating, and venue policies
  • Process cash, credit card, and electronic transactions accurately
  • Balance cash drawer and complete basic sales and attendance reports
  • Assist patrons with accessibility needs and ADA accommodations
  • Coordinate with Front of House staff, ushers, and supervisors as needed
  • Respond to patron questions or concerns in a courteous and professional manner
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming box office and lobby area
  • Follow all District and Performing Arts Center policies and procedures
