About The Position

OPEN TO ALL QUALIFIED APPLICANTS This is a CONTRACTUAL recruitment. The resulting certified eligible list may be used to staff several current and future vacancies for this position/function only. GRADE 16 LOCATION OF POSITION Annapolis, Maryland Main Purpose of Job The position serves in a support role to the Comptroller’s Board of Public Works (BPW) unit and is primarily focused on reviewing and preparing materials and organizing files for the bi-weekly BPW meetings. The position will work closely with the BPW Liaison to review full BPW agendas, summarize key items, attend briefings and take notes, assist in drafting meeting materials for the Comptroller for BPW meetings, organize BPW files, and coordinate with other units within the Comptroller’s office relating to BPW meetings. The BPW is a three-person body consisting of the Governor, Comptroller, and Treasurer. The BPW is responsible for approving billions of dollars in annual State spending (approximately $200 million every other week), overseeing the issuance of bonds, and acquiring and transferring State property. Additional responsibilities of the Board of Public Works include adopting procurement regulations, supervising procurement policy implementation, and approving the issuance of tidal wetlands licenses. Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
  • Four years of administrative staff or professional work.
  • Candidates may substitute 30 college credit hours from an accredited college or university for each year up to four years of the required experience.
  • Candidates may substitute the possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university for the required experience.
  • Candidates may substitute the possession of a Master's degree from an accredited college or university for the required experience.
  • Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer involving staff work related to the administration of rules, regulations, policy, procedures and processes, or overseeing or coordinating unit operations or functioning as a staff assistant to a higher ranking commissioned officer on a year-for- year basis for the required experience.

Nice To Haves

  • At least two (2) years of experience in roles requiring research, writing, communication .
  • Knowledge of state government , government agencies , and procurement processes.
  • Possession of Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Government, Political Science, Public Policy, Research, or a related field.

Responsibilities

  • Review all BPW agenda items and prepare meeting materials to be used by Comptroller at BPW meetings.
  • Manage BPW files and data used for internal purposes and shared with other units within the agency.
  • Support the BPW Liaison’s research activities on specific BPW agenda items.
  • Assist the BPW Liaison with stakeholder engagement and public inquiries related to agenda items and the procurement process.
  • Attend agency BPW briefings and internal prep meetings and take notes and prepare meeting summaries.
  • Attend BPW meetings and support BPW Liaison as needed.

  • As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled.
  • The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits.
  • You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.
  • Leave may be granted to a contractual employee at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked, not to exceed 40 hours per calendar year.
