About The Position

This position serves as an HIM Birth Registrar, primarily responsible for the registration of birth certificates. The role involves overseeing all birth registration processes, including conducting phone and bedside interviews with parents of newborns to gather accurate demographic information. The Birth Registrar is tasked with filing certificates with the state Bureau of Vital Statistics within five days of birth using the TER web-based software. Additionally, this role includes overseeing clerks to ensure the integrity and quality of their work, serving as a resource for daily birth registry coverage, and participating in a weekend rotation for interviewing and registering newborns. The Birth Registrar will also provide backup for other HIM responsibilities as needed.

Requirements

  • Bilingual skills required.
  • A valid Texas Driver’s License.
  • Safe driving skills.
  • The ability to safely operate company vehicles.
  • Must demonstrate commitment and adherence to STHS’s Compliance Program and Code of Conduct through compliance with all policies and procedures, the Code of Conduct, attendance at required training and immediately reporting suspected compliance issue(s) to the Compliance Officer.
  • High School diploma, GED or Higher Education.
  • Must obtain AOP Certification within 30 days of hire.

Nice To Haves

  • 2-3 years experience in medical records or healthcare related field.
  • Interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of computers, copy machine, microfilm and reader printer.
  • Associates degree in HIM/ Healthcare related field, or in lieu of education, a minimum of 2-3 years experience in HIM/Healthcare related field.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee all clerks for the integrity and quality of work.
  • Serve as a resource for covering daily birth registry.
  • Be included in the weekend rotation to interview and register newborns.
  • Perform HIM responsibilities as backups as needed.
