About The Position

Oxford Nanopore Technologies (ONT) is seeking an experienced Biopharma Sales Executive to drive growth across North America. You will call on R&D laboratories, core labs, manufacturing/production teams, and Clinical Research Organizations (CROs), acting as the primary relationship owner for Biopharma accounts in the region. You’ll partner closely with regional sales leadership (including the Sales Director, Biopharma) to expand opportunity, lead complex consultative deals, and support execution of ONT’s broader Biopharma commercial strategy. This is a highly cross-functional, application-led selling role in a matrixed environment.

Requirements

  • A customer-facing, field-based commercial leader who can win complex deals and expand strategic accounts in Biopharma.
  • A technically credible seller who can connect NGS applications to business and scientific outcomes across R&D through manufacturing/production.
  • A strong cross-functional collaborator who can influence without authority in a matrixed organization.
  • A relationship builder with executive presence who can develop KOL networks, reference accounts, and long-term champions.
  • A disciplined operator with strong forecasting, pipeline hygiene, and KPI ownership.
  • BSc in Life Sciences (preferred) or a closely related discipline.
  • 5–7 years of field-based commercial experience with a proven sales track record.
  • 3–5 years selling capital equipment and/or high-technology solutions in biotech, diagnostics, or laboratory environments.
  • 1–2 years experience with NGS applications (or comparable ONT-relevant genomics experience).
  • Demonstrated success selling complex products/services using a consultative sales approach.
  • Strong executive-level communication, presentation, and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to coach and train sales professionals (directly or indirectly).
  • Comfortable operating under pressure with minimal supervision in a highly matrixed sales and service environment.
  • Proficient in CRM systems to manage pipeline, track activity, and forecast accurately.
  • Strong territory and account planning discipline; capable of managing accounts with national/global implications.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute strategic sales activities to disrupt the existing NGS market in Biopharma.
  • Own and grow Biopharma accounts across North America, with national scope where required.
  • Drive ONT’s most complex and strategic opportunities to closure through consultative, application-led selling.
  • Lead retention, development, and execution in PromethION accounts.
  • Plan and deliver technical customer seminars and account-specific presentations.
  • Partner with Technical Applications, Technical Support, Product Management, and Marketing to enable Biopharma selling effectiveness.
  • Accelerate growth in new application areas and large sequencing initiatives, including clinical-adjacent opportunities.
  • Build and manage high-tier executive and KOL relationships across broad research domains.
  • Represent ONT at national and Americas regional tradeshows, conventions, and customer events.
  • Develop and share best-selling practices; participate in and/or lead training sessions and demonstrate proficiency.
  • Maintain operational rigor: CRM hygiene, forecasting, funnel and competitive intelligence entries, call reporting, expense-to-budget monitoring (incl. free goods/samples), asset stewardship, and compliance with OSHA/Universal Lab precautions and ONT policy.
