We are looking for a Bioinformatics Intern, Prenatal to join and support our Bioinformatics team in developing bioinformatics pipelines and analyzing next-generation DNA sequencing data. This position will focus on an analysis and/or development project with guidance from Bioinformatics team members. BTO is a dynamic, start-up environment that requires adaptability and the ability to quickly learn and apply new concepts. This internship will provide valuable mentorship from BI Associates and BI Senior Scientists, hands-on experience, and professional development opportunities. The Bioinformatics Intern is a full-time onsite position in our Menlo Park office for 10 weeks.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's program in Bioinformatics, Biology, Computational Biology, Computer Science, Bioengineering, Physics, or other related fields
  • Strong programming skills in Python and R
  • High mathematical and statistical aptitude
  • Great attention to detail
  • Curious about pursuing a career in Bioinformatics

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with MS Excel, bash, AWS, SQL, and git
  • Research experience in bioinformatics, biology, or physical sciences
  • Molecular biology (DNA purification, PCR, electrophoresis) or next-generation DNA sequencing laboratory experience

Responsibilities

  • Conduct a research and/or development project centered on one of our prenatal assays
  • Improve next-generation sequencing analysis pipelines under the guidance of Bioinformatics team members
  • Communicate through presentations, written reports, and/or code review
  • Collaborate with scientists and support new scientific insights
