All internship positions are designed to give college students an opportunity to apply techniques learned in an academic setting while obtaining new skills. This is a paid internship offering full-time hours during the summer months. All interns are required to conclude the program by giving a formal presentation on their work. Please note that no relocation assistance or sponsorship is provided for the internship program at this time. Position Summary: We are seeking a graduate intern who will contribute to the development of a bioinformatics tool that automates oligo design for target enrichment. In this role, you will optimize a multi-stage oligo design pipeline that aids in the development of Asuragen’s screening and diagnostic genomic sequencing assays. You will investigate the underlying principles of oligo design, analyze previous oligo designs and associated datasets to identify optimization opportunities, write and test code, and contribute to technical and user-facing documentation. This position offers a balance of bioinformatics development, testing, and documentation, providing a unique opportunity to gain practical experience in a cutting-edge research environment.

Requirements

  • Must be a currently enrolled student pursuing a graduate-level degree in a field relevant to the internship.
  • Must be able to work full-time and on-site during the duration of the internship program.
  • Proficiency in Python.
  • Understanding of genomics and bioinformatics principles.
  • Strong command-line skills and experience with Linux/Unix environments.
  • Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git).

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with long-read sequencing data analysis (Oxford Nanopore Technologies).
  • Experience with cloud computing platforms (AWS, Azure) is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and optimize an internal existing oligo design tool, leveraging existing codebase and previously collected experimental data.
  • Investigate and communicate best practices and literature reviews relevant to oligo design.
  • Contribute to front and back-end components to allow for rapid design of oligos.
  • Document development work and contribute to the creation of user-facing documentation.
  • Present findings and progress updates to the team.
