The Hide Laboratory at BIDMC and Harvard Medical School applies cutting-edge genomic and computational approaches to understand resilience and vulnerability in neurodegenerative disease. We seek a Bioinformatician / Data Infrastructure & Analytics Lead who will drive the lab’s computational strategy and data ecosystem. The successful candidate will establish lab-wide data standards, ensure reproducibility, and develop integrative analytic frameworks that support high-impact research, grant submissions, and translational discovery. The bioinformatician will manage and deliver developing code and pipelines for RNA-Seq, single-cell RNA-Seq, spatial transcriptomics, and proteomics profiling and also laboratory algorithm package maintenance and development. They will deploy a laboratory-wide data and work infrastructure. The successful candidate will be expected to take ownership of the lab's data infrastructure, serve as a thought partner in experimental design and interpretation, and help shape the Hide Lab’s computational capacity for long-term success in cognitive resilience and neurodegeneration research Job Description: Essential Responsibilities: Leads projects associated with the design, development and maintenance of data collection instruments, databases and procedure manuals. Leads the design and implements, performs data management and quality control procedures as necessary for routine and special projects. Creates novel computational approaches and analytical tools as required by research goals Analyzes large molecular datasets such as raw microarray data, genomic sequence data, and proteomics data for clinical or basic research purposes Independently develops computational systems to allow comparison or integration of data from multiple sources. Supports the creation of such applications in support of research projects. Leads and collaborates with program staff on the design and analysis of biostatistics aspects of research protocols. Participates in the design of questionnaires and interview forms. Compiles data for use in activities such as gene expression profiling, genome annotation, and structural bioinformatics . Provides statistical and computational tools for biologically based activities such as genetic analysis, measurement of gene expression, and gene function determination Analyzes data beginning with univariate and multivariate analyses such as logistic regression and factor analysis for research studies. Supports the interpretation and assists in the creation of study results in collaboration with faculty members, epidemiologists, biostatisticians and other team members. Provides tabular and graphic summaries of analyses in a form suitable for inclusion in manuscripts for publication in peer reviewed scientific journals as well as for presentation at scientific meetings Travels to project specific administrative and or national clinical meetings and presents findings. Attends project team meetings as needed Has the authority to direct and support employees daily work activities. Has authority to undertake or recommend the following employment actions: hiring, termination, corrective action and performance reviews. Requirements

  • Doctoral degree in Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, or related field required.
  • 5-8 years related work experience required in Integration of multiple complex NGS datasets including RNA-Seq, ChIP-Seq, ATAC-seq, CUT&RUN, and atlas-scale single cell/nucleus sequencing data and 1-3 years supervisory/management experience required
  • Must be able to apply existing algorithms in the analysis of such data and, if necessary, derive novel programs. These include expertise in multivariable regression analyses, ChIP/ATAC peak calling, comprehensive motif analyses (discovery, enrichment, etc.), and single cell deconvolution and clustering
  • Must have experience in performing bioinformatic analyses for a core, including acting as a liaison to core clients/users.
  • Must have demonstrated facility in providing bioinformatic consultation, including translation of a user goals into a clear bioinformatic output. As such, should show evidence of authorship or attribution on multiple manuscripts
  • Advanced skills with Microsoft applications which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access and other web-based applications. May produce complex documents, perform analysis and maintain databases.

  • Specific skills using R/Bioconductor, Seurat, Picard, and CellBender preferred.

  • Should be able to clearly delineate and explain the goals, relative strengths/weaknesses of various possible computational algorithms to biologists without bioinformatic experience.
