The billing specialists maintains responsibility for client services expertise, primary and third-party payers, patient claims and accounts rendered by medical provider.

Requirements

  • High School Degree required. Must have two-year secretarial degree or related experience. Must have working knowledge of insurance billing. Must be proficient in medical terminology. Must be proficient in 10-key adding machines. Must type 50 wpm. Must have excellent phone skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous healthcare billing and collections experience recommended or the ability to learn and demonstrate proficiency after successful completion of a training program.

Responsibilities

  • Codes Claims.
  • Bills companies or payer for services rendered by medical provider.
  • Daily daypack responsibilities.
  • Answers client questions regarding billing procedures. Responds to written inquiries from clients for additional information and documentation.
  • Ensures applicable regulatory requirements are complied with. Assists with other business office functions and participates in department and hospital performance improvement activities.
  • Verifies and documents adjustments to accounts receivable based on charging and/or posting errors. Minimizes potential revenue losses by ensuring client accounts are billed in a timely and efficient manner. Reviews client reports indicating suspended accounts, credit balances, and unbilled accounts to ensure outstanding claims are properly accounted for.
  • Assists in the effective and efficient operation of the service line.
  • Maintains CONFIDENTIALITY of all pertinent patient care information to assure patient rights are protected. Releases information in accordance with established policies.
  • Does not have unauthorized overtime, arrives on time, leaves on time and has few unscheduled absences.
  • Respects diversity of each individual (patients, visitors, vendors, co-workers).
  • Assists in Drug Screening Collection, on-sites, on-call.
  • Answers phone in a timely and polite manner.
  • Utilizes computer system.
