About The Position

At Tutor Me Education, we are revolutionizing the way students learn, and we're seeking passionate teachers and tutors with special education experience to provide 1:1 in-home tutoring in Carson, CA! About the Role: As an Tutor at Tutor Me Education, you’ll provide personalized, one-on-one tutoring to students with special needs in their homes. You will be responsible for helping students with daily activities, offering moral support, and delivering tailored instruction based on their Individualized Education Plan (IEP). We are currently hiring for multiple positions across all cities in Carson, CA! Details: In-Person Tutoring in Carson, CA Schedule: 6 hours per month; 1 session for 1.5 hrs Rate is betweem $25 and $35 per hour

Requirements

  • Valid teaching credential required (Special Education strongly preferred)
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish (required)
  • Extensive experience working with students with Down Syndrome and developmental delays
  • Strong background in foundational literacy instruction, including letter recognition and phonics
  • Experience supporting early math concepts, including numbers, shapes, and basic counting
  • Knowledge of handwriting development and fine motor support strategies
  • Familiarity with AAC devices and supporting nonverbal or minimally verbal communication
  • Experience implementing IEP-based instruction and collaborating with related services (speech, OT, PT, ABA)
  • Skilled in using visual supports, structured routines, and positive reinforcement systems (e.g., token boards)
  • Patient, structured, and nurturing, with strong communication skills

Responsibilities

  • Conduct an initial tutor assessment to determine current academic and developmental levels
  • Provide individualized instruction in foundational literacy, including letter recognition, phonics, and sound association
  • Support early writing skills, including pencil grip, letter formation, and fine motor development
  • Deliver foundational math instruction, including number recognition, counting, shapes, and basic concepts
  • Implement structured, visual, and multisensory lesson plans aligned with IEP goals
  • Utilize AAC tools to support communication and participation during sessions
  • Incorporate repetition, modeling, and hands-on activities to reinforce learning
  • Support transitions using consistent routines and positive reinforcement strategies (e.g., token systems)
  • Promote development of social awareness and basic safety understanding
  • Incorporate student interests (e.g., balls, cars, art, playdough) to increase engagement and motivation
  • Maintain a supportive, structured, and encouraging learning environment
  • Communicate regularly with caregivers regarding progress and strategies
